Yes, I downloaded them both and used them after you recommended them Wb.

I don't know what it was, but it seems to be working better now everything has gone! and DH has said 'new pc' as soon as I can get to the shops. (I like to see what I'm buying)
I do have a friend who could have come and helped but he is very busy at the moment.

Have you tried Malwarebytes and Slimcleaner?

It wasn't full, it was not even half full when I checked.

Anyway, fingers and toes crossed, it is behaving better now.

However, I did need a couple of afterwards!

I must say, so far, it seems quicker than internet explorer - if I click on that I have time to go and make a while I wait.

Yes, the updates can cause problems. We do have Kapersky but can't download it again now, so have Norton. Any port in a storm.

I am on firefox, Jalima.
I have downloaded uBlocker from their addons, and have had no problems since then.
Touching wood very firmly now, of course.

My Google history drop-down menu no longer works and it's very annoying! I think it's been caused by something sneakily updating itself on my computer without my permission..

Back to square one with mine now so have had to spend the day downloading what I need.

I hope that the DC have all the photos stored somewhere else .....

I bit the bullet (so to speak) and went back to factory settings, even so, Internet Explorer was so slow the pc nearly went out into the garden again. I then downloaded Firefox Elegran, Wobblybits.
Firefox seems faster, thank you.

I had exactly this problem a couple of weeks back (on my iPad) when I was at home in Portugal. Contacted GNHQ to see if it was a general problem or not. No, just me!
I cleared all history several times a day, it always came back. I thought that I would have to take the iPad back to factory settings when I return home from visiting DD in England.

I have had no problems here at all.

And yes, it was worse on GN, I'm probably on GN more than anything else. I didnt have it before folowing a link about the olympics.

Perhaps there is an anti GN virus.

Thank you Wb; I had a look and it did not seem to be there, however I had already uninstalled Google Chrome. I have run a virus check and a malware check, then tried to download Google Chrome again but it is not happening!

So I will go through internet explorer for the time being.

2.5 glasses of wine later I feel a bit more mellow! (I wasn't going to drink at all until the weekend, but it's been a strange day altogether.

I just ran malwarebytes. It's happened twice since I came back on GN.
It's not to do with not having Windows 10, as I have that.

I think djen is right, my friend warned me that, because I could not download the latest Windows on to my ancient PC that I would be 'punished' !!

Last night I ran a full virus check (Kaspersky)

Today I have turned on GN and it is happening again - but only on GN!
About every 5 minutes something comes up on the screen, something just popped up asking me if I wanted to use 'Sticky Keys' , then I get asked if I want to do a survey for Google Chrome, a survey for Tiscale (I'm not with Tiscali)

When I close the offending screen, GN has disappeared but I am still logged in
