Virus?

Run MalwareBytes and Slimcleaner, or similar cleaners. Possibly Malware on your PC.

I have the virus checker going as we speak post

I wondered if it was a punishment by Google Chrome because I have such an old-fashioned Windows set-up.

Malware and viruses are different. Malware is not designed to harm your PC just give you stuff like ads that you didn't ask for. AntiVirus software will not pick up malware, malware-bytes does that and is free. Slim-cleaner will remove unwanted files and clean up you cookies etc.

If it is an "annual browser checker" or some such thing, I have been getting it too, jalima and it doesn't have an X button to get rid of it. Do you use Firefox or Internet Explorer?

Please excuse the ignorance Wobblybits but how do I get Slim-cleaner and/or malware- bytes?

I tried to get a replacement Malwarebytes for my tablet, which had lost it. I could choose between the bought version, or downloading a free version lasting only two weeks. I didn't know that the free one now only lasts for a couple of weeks!

I keep getting that, too. I think it's Google doing it.
I changed to Yahoo and keep getting Google coming up all the time.
I think it's punishment,as you said, Jalima.
No malware, no virus.

Hitman Pro is another good one, and last tme I looked you could try that for free for a month or so I think

Last night I ran a full virus check (Kaspersky)

Today I have turned on GN and it is happening again - but only on GN!
About every 5 minutes something comes up on the screen, something just popped up asking me if I wanted to use 'Sticky Keys' , then I get asked if I want to do a survey for Google Chrome, a survey for Tiscale (I'm not with Tiscali)

When I close the offending screen, GN has disappeared but I am still logged in

I think djen is right, my friend warned me that, because I could not download the latest Windows on to my ancient PC that I would be 'punished' !!

I just ran malwarebytes. It's happened twice since I came back on GN.
It's not to do with not having Windows 10, as I have that.
Like you, I can't do screenshots, Jalima.

I just clicked on the link above from wobbly, Jalima, to use malwarebytes.
I have paid for AVG on the computer anyway.

I downloaded malwarebytes and ran it but it seems to be stuck.
I have Kaspersky (not free!)

Just trying again now.

Thank you Wb; I had a look and it did not seem to be there, however I had already uninstalled Google Chrome. I have run a virus check and a malware check, then tried to download Google Chrome again but it is not happening!

So I will go through internet explorer for the time being.

2.5 glasses of wine later I feel a bit more mellow! (I wasn't going to drink at all until the weekend, but it's been a strange day altogether.

Perhaps there is an anti GN virus.

I had exactly this problem a couple of weeks back (on my iPad) when I was at home in Portugal. Contacted GNHQ to see if it was a general problem or not. No, just me!
I cleared all history several times a day, it always came back. I thought that I would have to take the iPad back to factory settings when I return home from visiting DD in England.

I have had no problems here at all.

And yes, it was worse on GN, I'm probably on GN more than anything else. I didnt have it before folowing a link about the olympics.
