I wonder if this will work?
I can get onto the forum, but can't get into the individual threads - a strange message come up in blue.
Any ideas?

Come on GNHQ get this sorted. Drag the technies out of bed and set them to work.

This is nearly a week now. Most of us seem to have found how to avoid the crashing but it is a nuisance.
It has still worked on my Android Tablet.

It seems to me that the problem is specifically related to the "thread title" line on the screen.

OK today on my iPhone. Using both iMac and iPad still can't access via thread title in Last Hour section but can via the name of the most recent poster. Can't get in at all via Last Day. No problem using Active. Any progress on sorting it, please?

Marydoll Tue 20-Jun-17 23:33:43

I can get into "Last day" by Googling Gransnet+ title. Eg: Gransnet thread access problem, I can't get in the usual way and it's so annoying. I have tried with a number of titles and it works.

Now Tuesday, and the same problem is there.
But like MOnica I use active topics. Still not as good as Last Day and Last Hour.

M0nica Sun 18-Jun-17 21:55:47

I only get status 404 if I click on a thread under the heading 'Last Day'. I can get into most threads through 'Active' or 'I'm on'

Nelliemoser Sat 17-Jun-17 16:37:12

Ah that what I was looking for. This has kept me out for a couple of days.
I have discovered quite by accident that the HTTP status error only appears on my 'puter if you hit the thread title button.
I can get the last hour to open but if you hit the thread title it crashes.
I can get in by ignoring the thread title and going directly to the name of the previous poster.

Doing that on my laptop and it just worked. This has been bugging me for two days.
GNHQ will blame the heat. I would ask them for a heatwave emoticon but it would probably crash the system again. wink

Still happening on iPhone, too.

The wind must be blowing the smoke signals in the wrong direction! On second thoughts, there's no wind here, so the smoke must be getting fsucked up by the thermals!

Should have said native American headdress, or even a feathered collar. Sorry. Apaches all.
Play this while you wait for tech to fix it. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNAyPK2O4fk

We've probably been hacked by N Korea.
Why is there never a 7 year old grandson around when you need one?
Just thinking cuteboy?? con all? You could make yourselves useful!

Apache Tomcat a ginger tom wearing an Indian headdress, now that I would appreciate smilethanks for the explanation Elegran.

devongirl Sat 17-Jun-17 13:42:24

Thanks elegran. Tbh I can't believe how long it's taking GN to fix this - I'm sure there are GNers who would have it sorted by now!

Elegran Sat 17-Jun-17 13:16:18

I meant 404 too, Terribull finger must have slipped.
All the different possible errors have numbers, 404 is one that seems to happen often, It just means "Can't show you that page, it is inaccessible". Apache Tomcat isn't a ginger tom wearing an Indian headdress, it is apparently "an open-source Java Servlet Container"

So the problem is an issue with how some GN site files connect (or vice versa) with the server that GN uses to send the website pages to us,.

TerriBull Sat 17-Jun-17 12:34:04

Meant Status 404, Apache Tomcat, whatever that means confused

TerriBull Sat 17-Jun-17 12:31:42

Like Elegran, I'm still getting Status 440 screen first on lap top and now on tablet and can't access any threads, but opened this one via "site stuff" on the general forums display.

Nandalot Sat 17-Jun-17 10:30:52

Well thanks to Anya and Annsixty and this problem I have discovered the shortcut for going to the end of the thread, rather than opening the thread and then going to last. Silver lining!

Elegran Sat 17-Jun-17 10:05:40

Still getting the Status 440 screen on Saturday morning. I hope the tech team are still working on tracing the fault.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 16-Jun-17 10:53:41

Hello all, just letting you know that our tech team are on the case and are working on getting this fixed as soon as poss.

AlieOxon Fri 16-Jun-17 10:49:37

I've got the status 404 too.....

cornergran Fri 16-Jun-17 10:30:33

Still can't access through last day or last hour if I tap on the thread title, can if I tap on the name of the last poster on the thread. I'm using an iPad. It's all a bit strange! Haven't tried with the iMac so no idea if that's different.

shysal Fri 16-Jun-17 10:04:03

This problem is currently only occurring on 'unanswered', 'Last Hour' and 'Last Day'.
'Active', 'watching' and 'I'm on' are still usable.
The strange blue page which appears when trying to access a thread is headed 'HTTP status 404. Requested resource is not available. Apache Tomcat.'

Bellanonna Fri 16-Jun-17 09:59:42

Same problem here. I cant get the OP title post. I was just trying to look at a thread but nobody has posted in the last hour so I shall have to wait till someone else does. Last day just brings up that odd blue statement. It's been like that a couple of days.

BlueBelle Fri 16-Jun-17 08:44:09

Well I m using an iPad and everything is completely as normal so how can that be can it be what we are using ?

annsixty Fri 16-Jun-17 08:29:03

Like Anya I have discovered through trial and error ,if I click on the last post on the thread I can then scroll back and can read it all.

Anya Fri 16-Jun-17 07:31:37

Yes, it's been like that since yesterday. If you click on the OP's header post then the 'strange message' appears and you can't access. You have to click on the name of a poster within that thread.

I'm getting used to the vagaries of GN. Multiple oddities and too often the server not working.
