We're VERY excited to announce that we are finally testing out a new site design! We've been working really hard to make sure it's easier to user and looks neater than the current format.

It is a test though and it may take a day or two to get used to. Apologies in advance for any teething problems - hopefully they'll be minimal. If you have any major problems logging in or you can't access certain things please post on this thread or email us at contactus. We'd love to have your thoughts. smile

I think it is a shame that you didn't take this opportunity to change the colour of a thread once you had clicked on it.
Sometimes one forgets one has already read it, it is so much easier to see if the colour is different.
It does this on Mumsnet.

I'd like to see examples of what fonts others deem to be non-old-fashioned and fussy.

BlueBelle Fri 04-Aug-17 17:58:52

Also my font just and ordinary one not old fashioned or fussy why am I seeing different to you lot

BlueBelle Fri 04-Aug-17 17:57:54

Where do you guys get blue and green posts mine are all white. Except admin which is green

NonnaW Fri 04-Aug-17 17:50:38

I'll probably get used to it, but at present I don't like it, sorry.

NanTheWiser Fri 04-Aug-17 17:48:46

I don't like the font either - far too fussy and twee, and old-fashioned!

I prefer Mumsnet layout, with threads labelled "Started by" and "Latest", which gives an idea of the time-span of a thread. I would also like to see OP's posts highlighted (I notice only the opening post is highlighted but not the following posts in the new version), and my own in a different colour, which is not the case on the desk-top site at the moment.

Sometimes on a long thread I just want to skim-read and find the OP's posts, but that's not easy to do unless they are highlighted.

Not bothered by an edit button (MN doesn't have one), and I always preview before posting.

Sorry
I don't like the grey I found the green background on mobile site (which I use) easier to read than the pale grey

ninathenana Fri 04-Aug-17 17:29:45

Yours are green on desktop and pink on mobile

ninathenana Fri 04-Aug-17 17:26:40

Lara, I'd love too but I have no idea how to do a screen shot blush

Just to confirm my posts are highlighted in blue on mobile but not desktop.

Jalima1108 Fri 04-Aug-17 17:25:46

I have looked at Mumsnet and have decided:

I prefer their design.
I don't like this wishy washy grey
I prefer the typeface on Mumsnet - plain and straightforward
And the simple logo (well, not a logo)

NanaandGrampy Fri 04-Aug-17 17:23:43

I don't like the font , I'd call it old fashioned personally. I'd like slightly more definition between the grey and the white.

I also think an edit button an essential. You can see when a post has been edited so I disagree that people won't be able to work out what's what.

I don't like the logo either ( sorry GN HQ ) , it's too twee for me .

Jalima1108 Fri 04-Aug-17 17:22:23

do you mean the three people behind a wall/banner?

As Del Boy would say - 'It's a little baby'

Ana Fri 04-Aug-17 17:13:24

Must admit the new logo looks a bit silly! Is that a meerkat in the middle?

BlueBelle Fri 04-Aug-17 17:12:43

The colouring is now awful just pale grey against white I can't tell the difference between the name line and the post

I can't accept your explanation of no edit button EVERY. Forum I ve ever been on except this one has an edit button even if it's only a five minute one which doesn't change the conversation at all

I m on an iPad and it's way too white now ( logo just as old fashioned looking)

mcem Fri 04-Aug-17 17:10:47

And now the b*** serifs are back on the mobile site on the tablet!

Tizliz Fri 04-Aug-17 17:07:28

No adverts? Is this permanent or just because it is beta?

doesn't stand out very well, but after a day or so I wont notice.

mcem Fri 04-Aug-17 17:07:21

OMG! Just checked tablet which has sans-serif on mobile site but serifs on desktop. Phone has serifs on both!
So it'll have to be mobile site on tablet from now on even though I don't like grey/maroon colouring!! WHYYYYYYY?
I back the poster who said ' if it ain't broke don't fix it!!!

mcem Fri 04-Aug-17 16:53:24

Ok! What happened? When I looked earlier desktop site had old-fashioned series while mobile site had a modern sans-serif font. Now both are the same and I don't like the serifs!

mcem Fri 04-Aug-17 16:47:23

But is there a way to ditch the out-of-date serifs?
Is gilly 's post a not altogether subtle illustration of the need for the edit button?

downsized Fri 04-Aug-17 16:46:07

Oh no! I don't like change at all. It was perfectly fine before. If it ain't broke why fix it? ?

Jalima1108 Fri 04-Aug-17 16:45:05

perhaps a spellcheck but that may not work for gilylbob as steak is a word and so is mange - and other words.
In fact her post makes perfect sents really

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 04-Aug-17 16:43:59

Nina - could you email us a screenshot of what's happening on mobile. Can't seem to replicate it here.

Thanks so much everyone for all of this really useful feedback. Let's leave it for a few days to see how it goes and give more people the opportunity to try it out.

Jalima1108 Fri 04-Aug-17 16:43:32

Ooh, that's clever TriciaF
I am impressed!
I usually go to the three dots at the top right of the page and can change it there but only in % stages.

TriciaF Fri 04-Aug-17 16:40:56

It's ok. I soon got the hang of the headings.
For those who don't like the new font you can make it smaller or larger by pressing on Control and moving your mouse wheel back and forth unti you find a comfortable size for you.

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 04-Aug-17 16:37:29

Thanks nina. Testing that now...
