Suddenly, this morning, I have opened my email and found a few emails stating that someone has posted something on a thread I'm on .

Does anyone know how I can turn off these notifications ,they have the potential to totally clog up my inbox and I'm more than capable of tracking back threads I'm interested in to read new threads.

Hasn’t happened to me.....yet!

NanaandGrampy Thu 25-Jan-18 21:45:26

I keep getting flurries of them and they’re a serious pain! If they haven’t stopped it by morning I’m going to have to change my email :-(

Chewbacca Thu 25-Jan-18 21:36:36

I've had a total of 48 email notifications so far. On each one of them it says you can opt out of receiving them by clicking on "Talk Preferences". I've opted out 48 times and I'm still getting them. I even reported my own post to GNHQ and asked them to stop sending them because my inbox is so full. The acknowledgement email I got back was from Mumsnet. Something odd going on......

Mails!! Fat finger moment there.

Another Billy no mates here.
I feel rather overlooked as I haven't had any e-

Marydoll Thu 25-Jan-18 21:16:41

I was wrong! blush

Thought I had sorted and then got another load of them!!

NanaandGrampy Thu 25-Jan-18 18:57:56

I would suggest IF we were being particularly rebellious that we forward every email notification back to GN .....of course I’m not that rebellious....... really smile

It should be undo the latest update ?

durhamjen Thu 25-Jan-18 18:51:25

It's a bit much getting a message telling you you have just posted on a thread, too, particularly this thread!

BlueBelle Thu 25-Jan-18 18:40:58

I don’t remember any thread asking us about email notifications does anyone else?

I do remember about name changes which wasn’t too popular but A thumbs up button and edit button have all been refused although wanted by most

MawBroon Thu 25-Jan-18 18:29:30

Totally pi**ed off with this. See my comments also on WTF thread.
I may give up GN altogether if this goes on.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:39:29

Right. I'm still getting messages even though I unsubscribed, so it looks like there is a bug in the system.

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:37:52

Whew, I'm not going mad then FarNorth grin

FarNorth Thu 25-Jan-18 17:24:05

There's no Like button on Mumsnet, or edit facility either, so we've not much hope of getting either of those. sad

A "thumbs up" icon could be nice, tho?

Maggiemaybe Thu 25-Jan-18 17:22:34

Well, I'm not sure what's going on with my account.

I've had just the one email, informing me that someone had posted today on a 3 year old thread I've never posted on.

It was about pensions though, one of my current bugbears, so GNHQ must know me very well. grin

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:16:02

Thanks for the reply Lucy. So Gransnet will remain the only message board I know of without some kind of Like option. sad

Greenfinch some posters may prefer to remain anonymous, especially on the News and Politics threads. smile

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 25-Jan-18 17:12:10

NanaandGrampy - totally get that! grin

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 25-Jan-18 17:11:28

Hi Wilma

We did talk through the suggestion some time ago. Rest assured, we do take requests like this seriously - it's just not always possible for us to go ahead with them unfortunately.

In the end, we decided that a like button also had the potential to upset people too, say, if their post wasn't liked at all. That, combined with the amount of tech development it would take to create it, means that it's not something we're implementing at the moment, sorry sad

Greenfinch Thu 25-Jan-18 17:06:57

A like button is so impersonal. It doesn't take much effort to say "good post so and so".

NanaandGrampy Thu 25-Jan-18 17:06:31

LOL thanks Lucy.... I like hearing from GN , just not thirty or so times on the bounce :-)

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:04:10

Lucy did you see my question to you at 16:49?

WilmaKnickersfit Thu 25-Jan-18 17:02:54

jen if you read the thread I posted a link to in my earlier post, you'll see one of the reasons for having a button is it would be helpful to some members to feel less 'invisible'.

Actually it would also be a way someone could support a post without posting. I can definitely see that being useful on the News and Politics threads where animosity comes through. A Like button might result in more posters contributing to those threads.

Bathsheba Thu 25-Jan-18 16:59:09

Well so far I have had no email notifications about threads I'm on confused. Anyone else unpopular like me? grin

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 25-Jan-18 16:58:41

oops, fixed, I meant!

durhamjen Thu 25-Jan-18 16:54:33

No need for a like button. It's pretty obvious who likes who.

LucyGransnet (GNHQ) Thu 25-Jan-18 16:53:39

Sorry those of you who have pointed this out - you can only 'un-watch' threads automatically in those preferences! Apologies, that wasn't what we had in mind and we'll get this fixes ASAP. We'll keep you posted.
