Anyone else getting ads with flashing and moving borders? They tell me it’s not a joke and I can win an Apple product if I click here.
I find them visually so disturbing I might give Gransnet a miss for a while. sad

I feel the same. I’ve got two one at the top and the other on the left side. Your right they are really annoying. I posted about them this morning. If you find out how to get rid of them let me know.

An absolute pain. With the iPad I can zoom in so I can’t see them, been there for a couple of days. Will be pleased when they go.

Well the ad says I am the lucky 1,000,000th visitor....funny thing was it said the same thing yesterday! It’s really annoying.

I’ve got 2, I for Vodaphone and 1 for Seat, both in Spanish.
Go figure.

I find them irritating as well, I am sure they will produce spam if you click on them. Not Gransnet's usual standard.

Apparently I'm also the lucky 1,000.000th winner.
Very annoying. Click here! Not a chance.

Here’s a screenshot of the relevant ad for the benefit of the techs- it almost certainly goes to a page that will plant unwanted cookies, if not worse.
Hopefully Gransnet will get rid of it - if not I’ll be re-enabling my AdBlocker soon...

Hi all. Thanks for getting in touch. The ads you mention aren't anything to do with us - they are usually based on your browsing history. You should be able to click on an arrow in the top right hand corner of the ad and amend your preferences that way.

PamelaJ1 Wed 14-Mar-18 11:59:03

No, you two can’t be because I am the lucky winner!

Squiffy Wed 14-Mar-18 12:02:42

Well, as I was looking at this thread, my screen was completely taken over by Sky telling me 'Congratulations' etc. I hadn't clicked on anything, it just appeared. I got rid of it by clicking back a page.

RustyBear Wed 14-Mar-18 12:03:47

No arrow on the ad, and I’m not clicking anywhere near it! These ads frequently serve a pop up to iPads that can only be got rid of by deleting all your browsing history & cookies, which is too much of an inconvenience. Sorry, AdBlocker is going back on!
(PS Mumsnet usually seem to manage to block/get rid of this type of ad)

The explanation would imply that everyone affected has the same browsing history. But using GN is prob the only common thing, so how can the sudden appearance of these ads be unrelated to GN (obvs unintentionally)? Clicking in top right corner gets me nowhere.

I would imagine it depends on what virus protection and adblocker etc you have on your equipment . We always have norton and don't have any problems . Never got pop ups or advertising with or without flashing lights . It would drive me nuts.
Do you have free virus protection or worse .. None!
I am no tech though so don't quite me on that I just feel safer with paid security on our devices

Pleased I’m not the only one being irritated by these ads, but like you, I’m not clicking anywhere near them!
Hoping they go away soon!

I've just closed one of these moving ads by clicking on a cross in the top right corner of the Ad. A message in place of the offending Ad says 'Ad closed by Google'. So presumably it was placed by Google. Or is that too simple?

NanaMacGeek Wed 14-Mar-18 20:04:17

On my iPad, I've found these ads really intrusive and there is nowhere to click to close them. Such ads are counter-productive because I've just put an ad blocker on my iPad and stopped them. Like others, I can ignore ads that I’m not interested in but appreciate that we’d have to pay to visit some sites if advertising revenue was stopped.

NanaMacGeek Wed 14-Mar-18 20:58:37

Sorry, I pressed post too quickly (cooking the dinner), I meant to say I can ignore ‘static’ adds that don't interest me but the flashing ones are a step too far and they could redirect to malicious websites. The ad blocker I've used will allow static ads until I turn them off and I can 'white list' some that interest me. That seems fair, as I don't want all advertising revenue to dry up and start paying to use some websites.

Nothing to click to remove it but the wretched thing has stopped flashing on my iPad. Would prefer it gone. It no way relates to browsing history.

NfkDumpling Thu 15-Mar-18 07:49:55

I’m the 1,000,000 too! Not sure what I visited though! How did you stop it flashing Corner?

NfkDumpling Thu 15-Mar-18 07:52:05

How do I find Adblocker on my iPad?

Bellanonna Thu 15-Mar-18 08:36:54

That ad drives me to distraction. I’ve been putting up with it for about three weeks. It does stop moving after a while but when it does move it’s beyond irritating especially when there are two: a narrow horizontal one across the top and a square box shaped one to the right. I’d love to know how to get rid of it but there is no cross.

BlueBelle Thu 15-Mar-18 08:44:57

It has gone from mine today without me doing anything maybe GN has done something to remove it

Bellanonna Thu 15-Mar-18 09:46:59

No, mines dancing away merrily
