Deleted PMs - This is important

There is no obvious pattern and it is certainly not “a glitch”
The double sending PMs might be as that seemed to happen around the “Error message -bad gateway” whatever time.
But this seems to have been happening over a period of time and as well as private conversations, personal information such as RL names, mobile numbers and email addresses may have been in those messages.
I do think it raises serious concerns about security as well as confidentiality.
A right can of worms indeed! ? ? ?

I had exactly the same trouble maw - I thought it was a computer glitch at first but as so many have had the problem, I now think you're right, they are not private.

Having said that, although my messages to and from other posters were very personal and sensitive there was no reason even GNHQ would want them deleted.

I too have had duplicated PMs in the last week. I too assumed the poster had just posted twice in error.

It does worry me because recently my email and facebook were accessed. I had to change my email address and close facebook which still is ongoing problem.. And change lots of account passwords. i think they are all linked.

I had one deleted a week ago on 11th Feb. I have had some messages in duplicate this past week. I thought the writers had just pressed 'send' twice.

I have had messages deleted from one particular poster under her presen tname but those written under her previous name are still there.

All my deleted messages were conversations with regular posters, yet the occasional one from others remain.
Curiouser and curiouser. I do find it very unsettling.

I thought you could only delete messages on your own account. If I delete a sent email, it doesn't delete on the recipient's account. You can't delete anything from another persons account??

Almost all my messages have been deleted, both inbox and sent. Only two remain in my unbox from beginning of February.

I've just checked my messages & with the exception of those from someone who is no longer on GN whose messages have been deleted at her request, I have all mine dating back to mid 2011! Makes interesting reading and have noted quite a few name changes and also some who seem to have disappeared completely.

But.... my majority were from Bradfordlass and she’s very much still here and they were tpremoved in the middle of our conversation as I sent her a pm saying ‘ have I said anything to upset you as you have removed my posts and she wrote back ‘not at all I haven’t removed anything’???

I have 3 of Oldbatty's messages removed at her request. If OB has quit GN maybe that is the protocol?

My messages were also to and from oldbatty, can’t pm her so do wonder if she has left GN. It’s all very odd, bit unsettling. Hope there is a clear explanation today.

I have only had messages deleted from one particular person. When I contacted her she said that she had been clearing out her inbox .Mine to her been deleted and strangely hers to meas well. There was nothing sinister about it. Just the peculiarities of the system.

All mine that were deleted were from oldbatty so maybe she has left gransnet.

Just to add all my sent messages to those four posters have been removed ‘at my request’ ...oh no I have never requested to remove any posts
Four different posters, four different months September, October, December and January

I too have had messages deleted 17 I ve counted so far by four different posters saying ‘deleted at users request’
A few by BradfordLass72 at the time I asked BradfordLass72 why she had removed them thinking I d said someting to upset her, and she had no idea what I was talking about
These are not old messages Lemongrove they are quite recent most in January two in October and November
and nothing to do with clearing the box I haven’t cleared any

I am very annoyed and perturbed by this as it’s a total invasion of privacy

This is not caused by a glitch as HQ is saying or all would be wiped not just odd ones anyway they are telling lies as the sender has NOT requested it
pogs you can look at older messages there is a small backwards or forwards arrow at the top of the messages right hand side

A message to me from oldbatty dated 22nd December 2018. I hadn't read it.
I messaged oldbatty to see why she had deleted it but received no reply.

We have been trying to get to the bottom of this and will get tech to take a look in the morning. We will report back ASAP. Apologies for what seems to be a temporary glitch

Hi Cari - so it is not quite as I thought then - GNHQ told me that if one person in a group message deleted the message then all of them got deleted with a message saying 'this message has been removed at user's request' - which I did not request.
It was around Christmas time and just wishing posters a Merry Christmas I think!

Yes, I managed to go back through Site Stuff forums and the timing is about right. December, January.
