Should repetitive inane posters be removed?

If a post, which may be posted by someone who may or may not fit the description of a troll, who repeatedly posts identical repetitive posts , which add nothing to the discussion in hand, be removed ? Just putting that out there for discussion.

Someone suggested sprinkles of those crunchy dried onions you can buy scattered on top. Try those MissA they’re yummy.
I always found those dried onions tend to produce a lot of methane.

I think crystaltipps means me. Am I right crystaltipps?
You didn't spring to my mind at all Urmstongran

Your posts aren't inane (I may not agree with everything you post) but all threads can become subject to a 'silly season' from many posters occasionally.

I think crystal was thinking of someone else …… who is best ignored.

Love inane threads. grin

I did cauli-cheese with roast chicken today. DGS2 is 6'3", plays rugby and has an appetite to match.

That requires a heck of a big cauliflower and loads of cheese.

His favourite. grin

Plus what seems inane to some of us (and we can all think of times we've rolled our eyes!) may be of genuine interest to others. Let those people get involved in the thread while you do something else that you don't consider inane!

GrandmainOz Sun 10-Mar-19 22:27:32

Live and let live. If you genuinely think someone is a troll, report them. And if you find someone repetitive, or not receptive to your viewpoint, move on to another thread that's more interesting to you.
No need for meanness.

Wot you doing up at this time of night NatashaGransnet? You oughta be gettin’ your beauty sleep ?

MissAdventure Sun 10-Mar-19 22:21:49

I did, Anja.
I even went so far as to make a cheese sauce, for the first time ever.
A bit stodgy, but edible. smile

Hi all,

If you do have any suspicions that a user is a troll or a mischief maker, please report the posts that concern you or get in touch at [email protected] and we will take a look for you. smile

Anja Sun 10-Mar-19 22:19:46

Do you mind MissA I thought the Cauliflower Cheese thread was inspirational and I noted you contributed to it ??

Gonegirl Sun 10-Mar-19 22:19:25

Oh now, those are the really interesting threads.

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 22:19:07

Haha! MissA you are very witty!
?

MissAdventure Sun 10-Mar-19 22:13:37

Considering some of the longest threads of late have been about cauliflower cheese and which way people peg their washing out, I think we should be careful about what we label as inane. wink

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 22:12:29

I apologise to you directly crystaltipps .... I thought you were referring to me and it seems (probably) not. It hurt and I wrongly took offence.

Sorry ?

However it was still mean saying ‘inadequates in their bedrooms’.

Gonegirl Sun 10-Mar-19 22:12:01

Sorry!! grin

I think he sounds great.

merlotgran Sun 10-Mar-19 22:10:12

Gonegirl, Aren't you supposed to write, SPOILER ALERT before you give away the ending?

grin grin

Anja Sun 10-Mar-19 22:01:17

Oh dear! Been reading through some political (?) threads to see what I’ve missed. Quite a few possibilities if we’re talking inane, repetitive one liners ??

mcem Sun 10-Mar-19 21:52:14

Irritating though I sometimes find your posts, urmston I wouldn't call them inane. Repetitive and annoying yes but not inane.
I agree that the inane posts are are endlessly and mindlessly repeated by a bloke whose name sounds Scottish ( but I 'm sure he isn't!).
I take the point that he might have problems but surely if someone constantly stirs up irritation for his own amusement, while contributing nothing to the discussion, we are entitled to ask if his actions constitute deliberate trolling!

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 21:49:54

If I got it wrong by calling myself out then I do apologise. I was about to claim my £5!

I understand what you mean MaizieD about threads being hijacked. - although I have to laugh as YOU were one of a group who have been pretty determined to hijack the ethos of the forum!

Oh well, I acknowledged right at the start that I couldn’t be prescriptive about who posted and who didn’t!

Ginny42 Sun 10-Mar-19 21:49:19

I imagine crystaltipps means the man doing handstands on his coffee table in his euphoria over leaving the 'evil EU' (his words).

I find comments like, 'granny dear' offensive and reported those posts. Otherwise, best ignored I think. Who knows the poster's intent, but patronising sexism detracts from a Forum based on an exchange of ideas.

Beckett Sun 10-Mar-19 21:45:52

What would be the criteria as an "inane" post. Perhaps any which disagrees with a particular viewpoint?

Who will decide which posts will be deleted - those who wish to shut down any argument against their own opinion?

Gonegirl Sun 10-Mar-19 21:45:43

Come on Andy!!!

(Although I am actually a Remainer) grin

Gonegirl Sun 10-Mar-19 21:44:42

Oh, I've just had a look. I think he breaks up those threads beautifully. grin

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-Mar-19 21:42:33

Urmstongran I also do not think it’s you ?? It is someone with a male username!
