Should repetitive inane posters be removed?

If a post, which may be posted by someone who may or may not fit the description of a troll, who repeatedly posts identical repetitive posts , which add nothing to the discussion in hand, be removed ? Just putting that out there for discussion.

I had thought along those lines too MaizeD,he comes across as a windup merchant.

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 21:41:09

‘adding nothing’. Duh!
Should have proof read.

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 21:40:04

Oh! Maybe it’s NOT me then lemongrove??
Phew!
I’d hate to be called boring or being accused of kidding nothing’ to a discussion.

Goodness jessity who are the two you refer to, always arguing?

This is like a game of Chinese whispers now!

‘Inadequates’ in their bedrooms crystaltipps? I dont think any public forum sets an IQ test. Actually I think this says more about you than ‘the person’ .... whoever you refer to.

You sound like Hillary Clinton calling Trump supporters ‘deplorables’.

Shame on you.

MaizieD Sun 10-Mar-19 21:34:00

I don't think crystaltipps means you at all, Urmstongran I think she's talking about the guy who pops up frequently with inane remarks. So please don't take offence where there's none to take.

And you won't be the first person who's been frustrated by the fact that the thread they started with a specific intention goes adrift or gets hi-jacked. Sorry, but it happens and you can't control it.

Should boring posters be removed?
Should patronising posters be removed?
Should over emotional posters be removed?
(You get the picture) ?

lemongrove Sun 10-Mar-19 21:28:05

That’s strange Urmston as I thought the OP may be referring to an altogether different poster who turns any thread into one about .....yes, you guessed it, Brexit, and the horrors awaiting us if we leave the EU.grin

Urmstongran Sun 10-Mar-19 21:20:51

I will put you all out of your misery! No need for private messages to one another.

I think crystaltipps means me. Am I right crystaltipps?

If any of you are interested then do Check out the GOOD NEWS thread on Brexit where any like minded people can share any positive information.

It started in good faith on 1 March and hopefully will run until 29 March. Then that’s it.

crystaltipps and others who voted to remain in the EU don’t like the forum or its ethos as, understandably, it runs contrary to their views.

As mist of you will be aware, there are a plethora of debate based Brexit forums on GN. My thread was merely to encourage and yes, celebrate any GOOD NEWS we find! You’d think wouldn’t you that as a one-off, it might just be informative and uplifting - away from all the relentless gloom and doom surrounding the subject!

But do you know what? Several members, after repeatedly trying to hijack it - with mean posts saying ‘try and stop me’ etc. have recently become SO annoyed about the thread that crystaltipps tries to smear the forum by suggesting that I am some kind of subversive troll.

This could not be further from the truth! Despite serious provocation I have remained polite.

Please GNers - have a peep, read some of the posts - and judge for yourselves.

??

Likewise Monica , why would anyone want to spoil your fun, by reporting blatant patronisation ?

M0nica Sun 10-Mar-19 20:19:39

Lets name names. The thread on' Journeying to Paris with a grandchild' ends with a series of short meaningless posts with a graphic attached to each.

By the time I saw them, they had been up some time and I was surprised that nobody had reported them. I thought about doing so but it was quite awhile since they had gone up and the thread had reached exhaustion point so I decided the thread was drifting into being an archive so I decided why bother.

There are one or two quite harmless posters who come on to threads and post one or two short snappy comments of limited value, I just ignore those. Nothing they post is offensive and if it keeps them happy why should I spoil their fun?

Bridgeit Sun 10-Mar-19 19:38:26

Or PM me pleees

Bridgeit Sun 10-Mar-19 19:37:03

Can someone please spit it out Who are you referring to ?

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:36:50

There are TWO??? Didn't realise.

Wow! I feel I have been short-changed now! wink

crystaltipps Sun 10-Mar-19 19:36:05

I imagine some inadequate in their bedroom finding some sort of pleasure in disrupting others’ train of thought.

Jessity Sun 10-Mar-19 19:34:19

I stop reading and then don’t return to any thread these two posters are on. They just take over and argue with each other.

MaizieD Sun 10-Mar-19 19:31:32

I think that the poster in question is just boring now (though I was amused at first). So I just ignore the posts. It can be done...

Chewbacca Sun 10-Mar-19 19:29:11

Apparently not GrannyGravy. That was on my Christmas wish list and it's still not arrived.sad

GrannyGravy13 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:25:35

Please can we possibly have one thread on GN that doesn't turn into a "Brexit Battle"?

varian Sun 10-Mar-19 19:21:34

opinion

varian Sun 10-Mar-19 19:21:22

In my pinion, Day6, you were misled. Time will tell.

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:15:35

I do not have contempt for leave voters Day6, some were good people who were misled.

were good people?

I am a good person, I was when I voted Leave in 2016, and I still am! grin Honestly, guvnor!

I wasn't misled either.

But back to the subject matter......

MissAdventure Sun 10-Mar-19 19:12:24

It's easily enough ignored.

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:10:04

Forgot to add that I agree, and notentirelyallhere makes a valid point.

Day6 Sun 10-Mar-19 19:07:53

I agree Chewbacca. That thought crossed my mind after I posted. This site isn't about being stand-offish and all-comers are invited to join in.

But then notentirelyallhere posted - "there is something creepy about them, a kind of stalking, I wondered mental illness or worse."

The best bet (and kindest) is probably to ignore.

varian Sun 10-Mar-19 19:04:34

I do not have contempt for leave voters Day6, some were good people who were misled. I do have contempt for the cheating lying leave campaigners who fooled people with their lies.
