GNHQ guidelines state

"We don't generally delete whole discussion threads, unless they're libellous or racist or otherwise break the law, because it's frustrating for people to write carefully considered responses that, minutes later, are removed."

As far as I can see there is no mention of deleting "threads about threads"

Just what do GNHQ consider worthy of deletion? Insulting another member's intelligence or insinuating a member is a liar all appear to be allowed.

The criteria of what GNHQ finds acceptable seems to change depending on who is admin. for the day

My pleasure!smile

Most kind, Galen!!

Phoenix
May I be permitted to lend you some pearls?
As you know, I’m the Pearly Queen of GN!
I’m afraid I can’t oblige with twinsets though.sad

Ah, I understand now why I am being ' sanctimonious' in the eyes of some.

When I log on to GN I start with the threads from the bottom of the Active page upwards. I have just hit the thread ' how many times in a day'.

Fair enough ladies and gentlemen I hold my hands up.

My point still stands however if you are an adult and want to swear at somebody to show your feeling at least have the guts to do it in an adult manner and use the word/words, not hide behind acronyms.

As I said swearing does not bother me but if a poster repeatedly uses it make their point in an aggressive manner then they are the equivalent of the OFFICE BORE.

If that comment makes me ' sanctimonious' then so be it.

.......nonsense, rubbish, balderdash, gibberish, blarney, guff, blather, blether, hogwash, rot, baloney, tripe, drivel, gobbledygook, bilge, bosh, bull, bunk, hot air, eyewash, piffle, poppycock, phooey, hooey, malarkey, twaddle, dribble...

Don’t you just love the depth, scope and flexibility of our langauge?

Anja Sat 23-Mar-19 10:47:31

Sanctimonious claptrap!

not you Gonegirl

Gonegirl Sat 23-Mar-19 10:38:46

It's not about swearing.

i haven't got an effin' clue what it's about. Can't remember.

POGS Sat 23-Mar-19 10:27:17

No idea what this thread is about but I am guessing swearing /language on GN, apologies if I am mistaken.

It doesn't bother me particularly but I do dislike the use of acronyms to hide behind what at times is obviously infantile behaviour, each to his/her own I guess.

If you are an adult and want to swear at somebody to show your feeling at least have the guts to do it in an adult manner and use the word/words, not hide behind acronyms.

I think swearing is not worthy of deletion as it serves to show other posters your /their character and inability to debate, take criticism, or be considerate of other people's views and opinions.

They tend to be the equivalent of the OFFICE BORE on a forum, dull, repetitive, or tedious to be around.

I've just caught up with this thread and I love you all!!

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Mar-19 23:00:37

Oh, go on, tell us all Chewbacca

In the meantime I will stick with bluddy.

Chewbacca Fri 22-Mar-19 22:38:13

I've sent you a pm Anja.

Anja Fri 22-Mar-19 22:00:31

Chewbacca Couldn’t you just slip in innocuously into a sentence so HQ and the word police don’t notice. Cos now you’ve got us curious.

eg. “during the England v Czech Republic match tonight, their goalkeeper Valavitch Twuntabum missed an easy penalty from Kane”

.
???

Chewbacca Fri 22-Mar-19 21:55:45

Not without spending more time on the naughty stop Gonegirl!
It was the only time I've ever used it and, having seen it used so liberally over there, it was just so apt a response to the situation! Sadly, it barely saw the light of day before it, and I, was zapped! Maybe GNHQ agree with david and think it's unseemly for grannies to curse and swear!

Anja Fri 22-Mar-19 21:55:24

OK Phoenix my lips are sealed ?

phoenix Fri 22-Mar-19 21:42:16

There used to be a forum called Bad Mothers Club, sadly no longer, and a favoured word on there, often used to describe an unpleasant or useless make person was "twunt" shockblush

Gonegirl Fri 22-Mar-19 21:42:02

Can you tell us what it was chewbacca?

Chewbacca Fri 22-Mar-19 21:35:41

I don't understand the double standards of what is allowed on Mumsnet, and what is allowed on Gransnet. On Mumsnet, they use the most foul language shock, sometimes in every other post, and it's accepted by them and the mods. But on Gransnet, there seems to be the need to self delete any swear words i.e. f**k, which is ridiculous because everyone knows what is meant.

Whilst perusing Mumsnet recently, I discovered an acronym that I thought was actually rather useful and it seemed to be used very frequently and to good effect. I used it once on a thread here and was instantly deleted and put on the naughty step! grin

phoenix Fri 22-Mar-19 21:28:16

Sorry!

phoenix Fri 22-Mar-19 21:27:57

Anja don't tell anyone, strictly entre nous, of course, but I don't actually have a twin set,and only have fake (or should that be "faux"?) pearls, but one should attempt to uphold standards, shouldn't one?

phoenix Fri 22-Mar-19 21:20:18

Anja Fri 22-Mar-19 20:52:56

This is all very middle class! I can’t afford pearls and I’ve never owned a twin set in my life; no Jo Malone candles either.

I do have a very effective Cooks Candle from Sainsbury’s that’s got rid of the smell of Fish& Chips we had tonight. But what can I clutch? Feeling bereft ?

phoenix Fri 22-Mar-19 20:41:52

Oops meant a Jo Malone candle, wasn't for a moment suggesting setting fire to Jo Malone!

That's it, the police will be round at any moment, and I will be carted off for threatening bodily harm to someone who may be regarded as an established British entrepreneur!

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Mar-19 20:35:30

grin

I shall go and spray myself with lavender and amber ……. relaxing

phoenix Fri 22-Mar-19 20:34:03

Jalima deep breath, calm down, light a Jo Malone and relaaaaaaax!

Jalima1108 Fri 22-Mar-19 20:18:45

my overuse of lavender water
Oh no! Should I dispose of my Jo Malone Lavender Eau de Toilette that is Lavender plus some other obscure scent (Amber, Lovage, Cannabis, whatever?)
