This is not a thread about a thread. I'm not referring to content at all.
I simply want to know when/if GNHQ agrees to delete a post at the request of the OP because "it isn't nice".
Don't think I've seen this before and am genuinely curious. Is it simply the case that OP has reported the post as offensive, GNHQ agrees and deletes it?

Gonegirl The whole lot should have remained, including the posts that the OP reported, so that anyone reading it could judge the comments for themselves.

If GN wanted us to know that they didn't approve, they could have added a note beside each.

I got it Gonegirl smile

But, Rosecarmel, The OP didn't report to GNHQ the posts telling her she should not own a dog, and they didn't delete those, or tell those posters they were breaking any guidelines. What were reported and deleted were ones that suspected that she might be posting an April Fool windup.

(That was a joke btw)

The thread should not have been deleted. The helpful answers should have remained. (Especially mine)

It looked to me that the 'dog' thread poster was new too.
What kind of message is that putting out when someone can be hounded by self-appointed troll hunters just because they thought her post 'sounded' odd?
I hope it doesn't stop her from posting again, many newbies could be put off contributing altogether and not just newbies come to that

Most of which reinforced the common opinion-

Another gem!!!

No one was nasty at all -- except a little when-

Priceless!

Yes, the frail lady and equally delicate husband that went to France instead of doing what's nearly collectively deemed their duty were troll-like?

I really need to revisit the works of Aesop and Grimm!

Elegran Wed 03-Apr-19 18:36:18

My impression of that thread differed from yours, MaryEliza.

No-one was at all nasty to the original poster, except a little perhaps in pointing out that their sympathies were with the dog for not having a clear programme of approval/disapproval. But none of those posts were deleted.

The OP had lots of serious answers, to which he/she replied with more detail, most of which reinforced the common opinion that they were not suited to owning a dog and trying to train it.

Some posters, and I was one of them, got the impression that it may have been a windup aimed at the many dog-lovers known to be here. It was started on APRIL FIRST, for goodness sake, when everyone's antennae are alert for windups. Goodnatured windups, that is, not trolls, - and you know what? NO-ONE accused him/her of being a troll, just of having us on for - again goodnaturedly.

My own post - I'll repeat it again here and see whether it survives - said "A good day for asking for advice!" Just how was that an attack worth deletion and referral to the guidelines?

Posters were told off by GNHQ like naughty schoolchildren and their posts deleted. A sledgehammer to crack a peanut, in my opinion.

It seems to me that we now live in a world where you cannot voice an opinion

Yes, I think many people feel the same way NanaandGrampy In this increasingly PC world, there are some opinions that are acceptable, and some that aren't. I'd like to know who determines what is OK to think, because most of us are perfectly aware of all the 'isms' and no go areas, but the virtue-signallers still feel the need to condemn people who think differently from them.

Fortunately, we have wised up to this ploy, to an extent.

To be honest maryeliza I thought the doggie was dodgy but chose to ignore it - best thing really, rather than get all involved and het up!

rosecarmel Wed 03-Apr-19 18:18:39

Trolls !ook the same as they always did ... No need to hunt them down - What has changed is that people "think they see" trolls when people post opinions that differ greatly from their own -- or their group ..

Personally, I'd be more wary of posters who frequently begin their post with "We think" or similar - As if each forum member couldn't possibly form an opinion on their own - But some don't, and as a result drink the Kool-Aide .. And go on the attack, like toxic mongrels ..

Beware!

maryeliza54 Wed 03-Apr-19 17:59:20

River a gang of GN troll hunters thought the OP was a troll and posted many times to that effect. This broke GN guidelines ( which this group don’t think should apply to them). As a result because of all the deletions HQ deleted the thread although the OP is NOT a troll. See my post upthread which makes the point that the troll hunters were rewarded for breaking the guidelines. Nice

Gonegirl Wed 03-Apr-19 17:11:49

Too many deletions on the thread. #gransnetshame grin

Riverwalk Wed 03-Apr-19 16:49:39

Was it explained why the dog thread was deleted? Was it at the request of the OP?

maryeliza54 Wed 03-Apr-19 16:43:15

No I meant the OP of the deleted dog thread who was accused wrongly of being a troll. Sorry if it wasn’t clear.

mcem Wed 03-Apr-19 16:19:44

maryeliza as the op, may I just say that I have not posted on the chaffing thread (not a problem I have) therefore have not had a reply from you.

GrannyGravy13 Tue 02-Apr-19 16:48:05

maryeliza ??

maryeliza54 Tue 02-Apr-19 15:48:18

The OP has posted on the Chaffing thread - I posted a message to her on there and told her not to let TBGHD?

toscalily Tue 02-Apr-19 15:33:43

Been out shopping, come back and its gone grin, as expected.

Gonegirl Tue 02-Apr-19 15:30:46

I'm gonna shut up now.

Gonegirl Tue 02-Apr-19 15:30:25

And that was no troll. Our dog was the same. hmm

Gonegirl Tue 02-Apr-19 15:29:34

shock I put a really good reply on that doggy thread and now it's gone forever! What if the OP missed my beautifully formed words of wisdom?!!!
