I have to say, I'm disappointed that DOTD is automated. I don't use it, though I do see it sometimes. I always imagined that each morning at Gransnet Towers, the lights would go on, the kettle would be set to boil and the Chief Monitor of the Day would grab an old envelope and a pencil and start to tot up how many posts were on which thread.

'Ah, four thousand and five posts on Brexit, two thousand and ninety six posts on whether Aldi is better than Waitrose but my goodness, the clear winner is seventeen thousand and eighty three posts on whether dogs should wear coats in cold weather!'

I think that's how it used to be. Well, something like that.

Perhaps all newbies should be reminded of this when we reply to their first thread.

I must admit, gransnet is so quiet that any thread with more than 3 posts makes discussion of the day.
