Are you a longtime lurker? Love reading our threads but have never actually posted yourself? Then this is the week for you!

Simply say hello here, or post on one of our special lurkers’ week threads (which will all be listed here over the course of the week) and you could win one of our special prizes just for joining the fun.

What are the prizes, you ask? WELL <drumroll> we have an assortment of glorious goodies, from a limited-edition collection from Look Fabulous Forever, to a £50 voucher from the gorgeous jewellery retailer Merci Maman, from brilliant board games from John Adams to champagne glasses from Prezzybox and a year's supply of ebooks from Boldwood Books - and more! (Did we mention the money-can’t-buy, limited-edition Gransnet tea towels?!)

Posting is quick and easy - but if you have any questions, head over to our handy ‘getting started’ guide. This week we will also be running tips on how to get the most out of the site - and if you can't yet tell your DIL from your SIL, here's a handy guide to Gransnet acronyms.

Regular posters, fear not...as if we would leave you out of the fun. Seasoned gransnetters who extend the hand of friendship to newbies will also have their names put in the hat, just for being lovely people.

So welcome all. Don't be shy! Do post!

Say hello. Tell us what you like about Gransnet and join our warm and wonderful community. Happy posting!

Welcome all lurkers. Some may think that we who have "known" each other for years will leave you out of a "conversation" but that is not entirely true. Try Good Morning and Soop's kitchen threads- both places you will be warmly welcomed by extremely nice people. You will soon get to know folk and realise how really ill some of these people are and show remarkable fortitude.

We come from all walks of life and many will share their ex professional opinions and can really help others.

That's me then smile. When I joined I had one grandchild and now I have two with another due any day now. Will finally receive my state pension in July so that's another thing to look forward to.

Hello Lurkers. I lurked for a long time before I posted. Bite the bullet and post. It's fun.

Hi everyone
Another long time lurker here although I think I have posted twice! This is how I am in company, I’m very shy, love to listen to other people’s stories etc but don’t usually have much to say...I am a very good listener! I love reading all the posts every day..they are friendly, helpful, sometimes sad and often very amusing, and make me feel less lonely. I shall try and contribute more in future.
Thank you everyone

I am a regular reader but quite shy about posting. I enjoy the community feel of the forum.
I live near to the sea in Sussex. We lived in Yorkshire for twenty years but moved here to support my daughter who fled from domestic violence.

Gillyanne Mon 09-Mar-20 13:01:52

Another "lurker" here , read the news letter everyday and enjoy all your comments . Not sure about adding my two pennith to any thread , but do like imagining what you all look like and where you live.

I've been on this site for just over a year. I enjoy getting my gransnet email daily and looking to see what is going on in the forums. Not sure if I'm classed as a lurker, I do comment but not sure if others read.
Hello to all the lurkers.

CrazyGrandma2 Mon 09-Mar-20 12:52:41

I have occasionally posted - and yes Nannan2 I did read never posted before - but I got the impression GN was trying to be encouraging to us 'lurkers'.

I get the impression that this is a close knit community and it can feel a bit tricky to join in. I'm also a bit put off because I'm used to FB, being able to delete or edit my posts or replying to an individual comment without going as far as a private message. Anyway for what it's worth that's why I usually just 'lurk'.

To end on a positive note, I do look forward to receiving the Gransnet email on a daily basis.

I do post but do a lot of lurking too! Love gransnet for the humour and common sense. Something nearly always makes me laugh out loud. I also like it for the support it gives and it often makes me re-appraise my ideas too.

Marionp1 Mon 09-Mar-20 12:46:50

I’m a lurker but regularly read posts and have to say the subjects often resonate with my own experiences, good to see others take on situations. I will try and Jon in more from now on! Also love your competitions.

Pjkoctur Mon 09-Mar-20 12:43:49

I’m a daily lurker from the USA. I’ve only posted once before just to comment. I love the women in the UK and although we have much in common, I relish the differences in how we live our lives. It’s the little things that interest me.

josiew Mon 09-Mar-20 12:42:46

My first single was Jo Stafford singing You Belong to Me. My boyfriend at the time was doing his National Service in Egypt,so the lyrics were quite relevant.

Needless to say, it all came to nothing and we went our separate ways, as happens with teenage romances.

Diggingdoris Mon 09-Mar-20 12:42:44

I'm not a lurker as I occasionally post, but I would like to welcome any new readers. I really look forward to my daily message, as there is usually something interesting on there. I have been on some of the games, but they are very addictive and I feel guilty that I should be doing housework instead!

00mam00 Mon 09-Mar-20 12:42:01

I’m not really a lurker as I do respond occasionally. Sometimes when I think ‘oh what does it matter whether I say anything’ I have to remind myself that without posts and responses, gransnet wouldn’t exist.

I cannot remember which was the first single I bought.

My favourite garments are wide leg crops.

MoggyMummy Mon 09-Mar-20 12:40:22

I lurk - having an identity crisis as spiritually a MNetter but age-wise should be a GNetter. Still have teens at home.

BRAVEBETH Mon 09-Mar-20 12:36:06

I am a lurker as well. I am a full time carer for my 99 year old mother. I feel as if I am back in the real world when I read the messages. They allow me to be me and not just a carer

Blindfish50 Mon 09-Mar-20 12:35:07

Hi everyone,I've been a lurker for quite a few years and get the news letter and follow the topics there especially Good morning. I feel as if l know many of the posters and worry if they don't appear for a a while. The main reason I don't post is I'm a bit finger happy and worry I I would go on too long (like now). I am 70 in July, live in Sussex and have 6 children and 13 step and blood grandchildren ?. My first record was 76trombone s when I got a Dansett for passing the 11+.

Scottiebear Mon 09-Mar-20 12:33:43

I read posts daily and occasionally respond. Reading some posts makes me realise how lucky I am compared to many others. I often wish I could do more than just offer a few words of sympathy. I'd encourage anyone who feels isolated and alone, but needs advice, to post because other Gransnetters often offer some useful and heartfelt advice. And, if nothing else, some of the lighter hearted postings will make you giggle.

grannie7 Mon 09-Mar-20 12:33:17

I am a new lurker a few weeks.I have posted a couple of times but feel a bit like Nanaval4G you all seem to know each other well and I haven’t really liked to interrupt.
I have 7 GC and 1 GGD and another GGC due in August.

Samegrandma Mon 09-Mar-20 12:28:11

Hello to all my fellow lurkers!! Seems I'm in good company! smile

Rosina Mon 09-Mar-20 12:21:46

Hello Lurkers! I lurked for a year or so before posting - but I do find GN such a source of sense and good humour. I would miss reading the regular posters, so why not become one?

CariGransnet (GNHQ) Mon 09-Mar-20 12:21:04

Welcome to all. (And obviously hello to the regular posters who are joining in and extending welcomes too!)
