Hello, GNHQ here, (waving a white flag).
We need your help. As many of you have probably noticed the conversations over the past few days have been increasingly tense. The questions posed have been so interesting and worthy of debate but so often the conversations have derailed and turned into personal attacks (the veiled ones can be particularly unkind). We hate deleting threads when people have taken time and effort to contribute and it must be equally wearing for you all to wade through mean-spirited posts. We'd really like to get back to conversations that include debate/disagreement but that also show a bit of respect and consideration for other posters even if you disagree with them.

We want to be clear that we know that these bunfights are often not one-sided, and that there is no favouritism in our moderation - each report we receive is reviewed and we only take action where necessary - and we ask all users to please refrain from personal attacks. We are a post-moderated site and so we don't see every post that is made on Gransnet and do rely on your reports.
As we stated in the OP, we absolutely don't mind debate and disagreement, but there is a way to disagree with another user, and still keep things civil. But when things become personal and descend into bunfights where the only purpose is to target other users, it completely detracts from the discussion and can ruin the debate for everyone. 
Yes. It's the old scenario of "I don't care who was responsible, you will all lose your playtime if this carries on!!"
