If you clear all cookies, will you not then be able to access things like your bank?

Gosh I'm slow.! I've only just realised what they are doing. When you give permission for them to put cookies on your device, they are also putting cookies on all other devices which use the same router. This means other members of your household will be tracked too.

Nana3...if you go to 'settings' then apps and storage....you should be able to clear everything on your device. I've been doing that more and more recently.

My tablet is not feeling like a safe place at all. I made some changes after following this thread and it's probably made things worse. When you're not tech savvy the language used on instructions of how to stop data being stored etc is not accessible and who knows what happens and who has access to your data, criminals no doubt.

If you use Firefox, those three dots won't be there. Instead there is a list across the top left of the screen that goes "File, Edit, View, History, Bookmarks, Tools, Help" Selecting "History" will bring up a window where you can do the same kind of things that Spangler suggests.

*Tools" brings up some interesting possibilities too. They include "Options" which has under "Privacy" some choices to apply generally to the things mentioned in the Gransnet consent form. Even if you don't apply them, it is worth a read to see what actions by a site you could be blocking.

I may be a dunderhead at technology, but I'm almost paranoid about the harvesting of my personal data. Whether that's here, other social media sites or just when browsing. If you feel as I do, you can fight back.

Can you see three vertical dots at the top r/h side of the screen? That's the customise & control button. Right click on it. The drop down menu should have: "History" somewhere on the list. Click on it.

Left click the box of the first line, hold down the shift key and do the same with the last line, all boxes will now be ticked. go back to the top and click delete.

Across the page click on: Browsing data, then click all three boxes, then click the clear data box. You've just got rid of cookies, temporary files and everything else that spies on you. An added benefit of doing this regularly is that your computer will never run slow.

GNHQ is there anybody there??? Has anybody ever had any posts deleted at weekends? Maybe they only work Monday to Friday!

Another request, please, for a clear definition from HQ of ‘legitimate interest’ and who defined it. This seems a perfectly legitimate request and should not be dodged.
I wonder whether it would be possible to offer a subscription service as an alternative?

Bathsheba I think all of us must be thick, or possiblyit is just that people in the marketing world think we are thick because we are all well over 50.

We are all quite with-it enough to be able to see that we have not been told everything, and that the software we have been using to select and save our choice of privacy is not doing what it says on the tin.

Total disregard for users data privacy and the lack of response just adds insult to injury.

I would like to know exactly which personal data they are able to access. If what Kamiso says is true, it suggests they not only get our e-mail address, they are able to read the e-mails too. If so that is a total breach of our privacy and is not at all acceptable.

Not much consideration has been shown to us, even though 3 threads have been running , full of concern, since yesterday.

It would have been appreciated if someone from HW could have been on call today and answered our questions and allayed our fears.

I accept that we cannot stop the adverts - of course the site has to get its revenue from somewhere, that's perfectly normal. What is unacceptable is that we are seemingly given a choice about whether or not our data is used, and then as soon as we submit our 'choices', all of the grey buttons toggle back to blue again.

LaraGransnet can we please have a full and proper explanation about this? I, and I'm sure many others, want to know exactly what is this 'legitimate interest' that no matter how many times I toggle to 'off' immediately defaults to 'on'. This is not about adverts, but about these vendors using our data. I do not consent to that, and if I am unable to properly and permanently deselect this consent I shall be leaving GN.

I have tried to answer my own question and find out what "legitimate interests" are (as it is now the weekend and we don't seem to be gtting any answers from Gransnet HQ)

It could be a technical hitch with the program that has been written for these numerous new data usage options.

If it is, GNHQ need to report it as a fault and have the IT company responsible to test it.

I don't understand why there is an option to switch off 'legitimate interest' on all these organisations (don't understand why they should have a 'legitimate interest' in my data anyway) but it makes no difference, your selection is not recorded, which I suspect is contrary to GDPR?

I was shocked when I found I could suddenly access various accounts (not just GN) on my laptop, iPad and iPhone but worse still when OHs emails came up as well. I have zero interest in motor racing, cricket or football but what happens to someone trying to escape domestic violence or just family letting off steam about another member privately- or so they thought. GN is a business and they need revenue but safety should still be a priority surely?
