Are you having a New Year break, GNHQ?

Both yesterday and today, my self and others reported posts, but so far there has been no response from GNHQ.
Its all a bit strange and a tad worrying.
There is no point in having a self moderating site, if no- one responds. sad

Oh FFS. The puerile games. No need to guess further.

There was no other alternative. Genuine answer. I could write a book on the whole story. Again genuine answer. I think after this afternoon on this thread a new chapter will have to be written.

Oh stop being coy retiredwell.
We’re really not bothered. ?

Perhaps Retiredwell has now retired but was working in a previous incarnation, even perhaps running a business? iyswim

Ah, you are purely guessing there Callistemon and you will never know if you are/were right.

Just to say I have done nothing which many others on this forum have not carried out previous to me

Still if I suddenly disappear from the forum just look out for my reincarnation. ?

Kalu Sat 02-Jan-21 17:15:12

Is there a particular reason you name changed Retiredwell?

*retiredwell*, I think I have worked out who you were but would you explain why you changed your name. Genuine question.

Perhaps perversely, I have enjoyed my afternoon. Thank you all for contributing.

I do not really see the need for moderators, surely if you don't like a post or person just scroll past.

Ignore advertising posts and treat scam posts the same way you would scam emails or phone calls.

Members with dual identities could be picked up by GN via their IP address if they felt it necessary so do not need it reported.

An IP address does not mean that a person or member can be identified. Just Google "VPN" if anyone does not know what that is.

The coming about of VPNs has made it very difficult for sites to identify members or even former members returning.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 02-Jan-21 16:53:41

Please Marydoll can I be in your clique pretty please ?

merlotgran Sat 02-Jan-21 16:51:40

Someone did accidentally out themselves shaving

grin grin

Oh Sister Josephine!

mumofmadboys Sat 02-Jan-21 16:48:52

Are you trying to make people wary of you Retiredwell?

Marydoll Sat 02-Jan-21 16:43:56

Someone did accidentally out themselves shaving been re-incarnated, after being previously banned.

It didn't take long to work out who you were. I'm pretty good at identifying styles. wink Posting on certain threads was also a clue. I fancy myself as a female Sherlock Holmes. grin.
However, I could be totally wrong!

I look forward to seeing you in yet an other persona.
I'm off to PM my clique with your new name. Only kidding!

Yes, I had to call the AA out yesterday morning to due to a flat battery. They were brilliant here in less than half an hour, tested the battery on the car, visually gave me the results and advised on a new one which he then fitted.

Gave me the old one which is still under warranty so I can make a claim on that (hopefully) as being a Bank Holiday that garage and car dealer were not open for business.

I think, that is where we came in on this thread with people wishing to have time off at holiday time which I do not disapprove of them having.

As for forum members changing their names, what would be the point of anyone changing their name and then announcing that to the entire forum. Should anyone do that (which I doubt has ever happened) they may as well keep their old name.

Still, may go off and begin another reincarnation again now, I will see how I feel. ?

The forum would be inundated with scams, dubious adverts, people soliciting etc if the moderators didn’t swiftly remove those posts.

I agree that sometimes posts or threads seem to be deleted too quickly for no good reason, but at the same time a line has to be drawn somewhere. Even Twitter removes hate speech and fake news.

The other reason a post might be deleted would be if it was deemed libellous or in contempt of court. In that situation I think GN would be liable.

Callistemon Sat 02-Jan-21 16:18:16

Oh, right.

cornishpatsy Sat 02-Jan-21 16:14:19

If you use different email addresses you can have as many as you like.

Callistemon Sat 02-Jan-21 16:11:16

It's not possible to have dual identities, is it?

If GN can't afford moderators to be on duty 24/7 couldn't they just program the site so that a post that is reported is automatically removed pending moderation. At least no one else would be able to read the offensive content until the moderators are back and can look into it.

Good idea, jackyb.

Can't say I've found GN Tech Dept to be impressive so far though so I'm not sure they'd manage what you suggest.

Dons tin hat for when HQ reappears ?

Marydoll Sat 02-Jan-21 15:57:09

I do have Home Start and it looks that due to my shielding status and unavoidable infrequent car use, my battery needs replaced. Of course, as expected it is an unusual one and it's going to take time to source a new one.I'm not likely to be going anywhere any time soon.

I had suspected that Retiredwell was a reincarnation.
The style and pomposity was oh so familiar. It was so obvious he/she had a wooden spoon in their hand.

Great news, GNHQ are back in the building. I can rest easy.

GrannyGravy13 Sat 02-Jan-21 15:52:05

I agree Elegran I have made several lovely friends since meeting in real life and several who we communicate through PMs.

^A flat car battery needs my full attention^
Oh dear - I suppose many of us have not been using our cars much or, if so, just for short journeys.
Can anyone put it on charge or do you need a new one?
Are you in the AA (Home Start?)

Must be contagious, DH has his car battery on charge at the moment, I haven’t started my car for over three weeks, perhaps I should try?

Elegran Sat 02-Jan-21 15:49:01

Every contact medium can be used for good purposes and bad. Without the ability to exchange private emails in Gransnet, my own life would have been far poorer.

I remember when meet-ups in person were first suggested on Gransnet (many years ago) there were some who were horrified that posters were considering actually having coffee and cake in person in a cafe with other members. You'd have thought they were planning to meet with white slavers in an opium den! Thank heaven many gransnetters ignored the doom merchants and created what have been life-enhancing local groups.
