Both yesterday and today, my self and others reported posts, but so far there has been no response from GNHQ.
Its all a bit strange and a tad worrying.
There is no point in having a self moderating site, if no- one responds.

Who's advice????
What trolling?????
What do you mean Galaxy?
I don’t know what you mean by a ‘fully-moderated’ forum RW.
But if you mean a moderator sitting at a computer in an office 24/7, forgoing holidays and separated from their family, which is the Dickensian picture you seem to be trying to paint, that is hardly necessary.
As for adverts, no one has said Gransnet should be ad-free. I think most of us accept that the adverts pay for the site.
I took Galaxy to be referring to RW’s suggestion that the private messaging facility should be removed, FarNorth, on the grounds that GNers mainly used it to form cliques and victimise other posters?
I would just say all is not as it seems. Crikey all this idiocy is making me sound like mystic meg
Perhaps RW would like the whole postal service to be closed down, as I believe that some people use that to write letters to close friends and pass on information and opinions. General email providers too, because being able to send messages that are not displayed in public could let the senders tell things about acquaintances to third parties.

With regard to the above, Lucca posted at 08:21 today as part of a larger post, " I also do not want a forum filled with advertising, be it for products or “services”
So, some it would seem do not wish to see advertising on the site. Also, no one has spoken of Dickensian working conditions as the normal three or four employee shift system worked in so many companies would suffice with perhaps job share incorporated into that.
However, I still believe that GN would not be able to engage in that expense simply by judging the empty advertising placements on the site.
You can use an adblocker.
What some may not realise is that the advertising on the right of your screen is nothing to do with GN, but based on your own personal internet browsing. As Callistemon states, Get an ad blocker.
I have not done any searches for Malta holidays ever but that's what was showing up on the right of my screen just before I started this post ?♀️
Many of my searches from the last few days have appeared on the right hand side and I'm sure GN are not promoting QVC, Moda in Pelle and Clarks shoes. ?♀️
One of many possible reasons below.
Adware (or advertising-supported software) is a type of malware (or malicious software) that hides on your computer and automatically displays advertising material when you are online. If you've been getting annoying pop-up offers appearing on your screen, your computer might be infected.
I'm with BlueBelle on the issue of PMs I've had support and interesting conversations with them and got to know some posters a bit better.
Sometimes it's helpful to compare notes with something you wouldn't want on a public forum. I could share the details of my haemorrhoids on here but ...............
I will be happy not to receive that pm sodapop
The problem with ad blockers is that advertisers are aware of how many "hits" their main site gets redirected (clicked on) from the adverts they place on GN etc.
If the redirect clicks are low then those advertisers offten decide not to place any resources into the GN or other similar sites and hence there can be a loss of revenue income to Gransnet.
Therefore the use of adblockers by forum members can financially damage GN in what are already difficult times for forums such as this.
Oh dammit Galaxy you were next on my list.
Sodapop???
I need an ad for a local professional oven cleaner but guess what - I have no adverts at all at the moment!
(No ad blocker either)

Google Ovenclean or Ovenu they are UK wide franchises, I have used both in the past with good results.
The only ad I can see here is for Eva Family ( looks like Chinese made clothes) have never looked at anything like that.
I assumed they were paid ads to GN, now am mystified marydoll ( wonder if Lord Lemongrove has been surfing ladieswear again??)
?Since posting the above.....it’s vanished, and there are no ads at all now.

You misunderstood me. I meant people who start a thread which is advertising, not the ads at the side etc,

I wouldnt worry too much about mumsnet/gransnet being financially damaged they had revenue of £8.6 million in 2018.
Today's rightside ad for me is Soreen malt loaf. We used to have this when I was a kid, one slice buttered as our 'pudding' at tea time after the protein first course, something simple like beans on toast or a boiled egg. There was always plenty of bread and butter to fill up on too. We all had school dinners, which were fine; I've never understood all the fuss some people make; maybe we were lucky.
ANYWAY, the point is, I make my own fruit (and nut) loaf now — based on a recipe for date loaf that my mother-in-law used to make for our mountain climbing highland holidays — but that ad reminded me about malt. Must look for some. My local pharmacy used to sell it.
Don't think I've ever clicked on a Soreen ad or bought it online. My dad taught us to (try) and be advertisement immune. I daresay we are not fully immune but that we built up some immunity under his direction.
Baggs ditto the Soreen Malt Loaf ads here.
