Could a link in a post be in a different colour please?

It is not always clear if a link is available.

Blue would be good.

Thank you Marydoll

Yes, that is interesting.

So here is a LINK to Crystal Chandeliers (LIVE) - Heidi Hauge singing and a LINK to a walk around Mainz in Germany with a statue of Gutenberg a little after twelve minutes into the walk.

I find it a faff doing hyperlinks on GN. Much easier and quicker to just copy the URL, post and the URL appears blue.

The only time, I would use hyperlinks is when I was working in a professional capacity, as it's much neater and improves the appearance of the document.

EP, I thought you might find this of interest.

it is blue on my computer too

Jane43 I’m on an iPad too, I just hold my finger on the item, a box comes up, I use the copy url option, then to paste elsewhere just tap finger on the elsewhere….that reads rubbish, but I hope it makes sense! Like this…

> (But don't know how to do it so I always put the full link)

Simply type two open square brackets, the key should be next to P on the keyboard, then paste the full link, then type a space, then type HERE (or whatever wording you choose) then type two close square brackets (the key should be next to the open square bracket key) and then a space, and that then should show correctly in the preview.

I hope that this helps.

I don’t use hyperlinks as I have forgotten how to do them. I usually copy and paste links and they always come out in blue, if they aren’t blue they won’t work. I use an iPad.

One can sometimes go round parks and inside a building such as HERE where Leonardo da Vinci lived in his final years.

WEBSITE

and inside an art gallery such as HERE in the Uffizi art gallery in Florence.

Thank you.

Perhaps it would help if people put HERE rather than here.

For example, please click HERE for something interesting.

And one could have that HERE is a way to have a look around.

Yes, agree.

I saw that!
(But don't know how to do it so I always put the full link)

The orange pegman (now who does that make me think of) works exactly the same on British Google Maps. He is a brilliant design invention, though he only ventures onto public roads. It is most frustrating when you can see a little footpath but can't follow it.

ElderlyPerson Sun 31-Oct-21 09:42:19

Other châteaux are available was meant to be after those links, which are to the website of the same château as before.

By the way, just in case anybody did not realise, with the second link in the above message, the idea is that one drags the orange pegman who is located at lower right and by doing so blue lines then light up on the map (I get blue for those) and then one drops the orange pegman onto one of the blue lines and whoosh! one is into Google street view, though here it is not streets but the grounds of a French château, though the roads nearby are available too.

Other châteaux are available.

You can tell if a link is 'live' by passing you cursor over it. The pointer will turn into a little hand.

Gnet automatically makes a link live when you paste it into your post. It's best to copy and paste links in so that there's no chance of typing it wrongly. I'd always put it on a separate line so there's no chance of forgetting to leave a space between the link and your text; not leaving a space would corrupt the link..

I use a laptop, a tablet and my phone. Links come up blue on all of them.

Elegran Sat 30-Oct-21 17:12:37

Do let us know if you have any success. I imagine others would like to know how to do it.

Elegran Sat 30-Oct-21 17:11:52

This from Microsoft may help you, EP , but it may just be for someone making the link.

If you have the Chrome browser, this may do it -

Then there is this -

Sometimes I miss a link if it just says here in blue in the middle of a sentence.

EP, in your laptop settings there may be accessibility options which enable you to change the screen tints and colours to something better for you. I can't tell you precisely where it will be because I use a mac, not windows

I think if you go into Settings then Display you can adjust your screen settings.

Perhaps you have Night-time mode on which may be duller or you need adjust the brightness on your screen.

Tizliz Sat 30-Oct-21 16:12:36

I did a bit of research and the only info I could find was how the person making the link can change it, so you have to rely on the poster to make it more visible.

Thank you for your suggestion.

As a result of your suggestion I have been having a look through the Windows 10 accessibility options. Lots of very detailed things about colour vision impairment, but as far as I can tell nothing about what colour in which to display web links. I have also tried to find anything in the browser software too but if there is a setting I have not found it.

If I remember correctly, years ago choosing the colour in which links were displayed, both before and after clicking them, could be chosen by end users.

Thank you again for your kind suggestion.

EP, I wasn't thinking of GN in particular. I used to manage my school website and was always inserting hyperlinks, but sadly I am totally out of practice. sad

ElderlyPerson Fri 29-Oct-21 16:42:59

*EP*, You have to create a hyperlink using the words click here linked to the original address. It will then become blue.
I have forgotten how to do it, ages since I did it.

It is shown how to do it lower down each page of a thread.

Two open square brackets, then paste in the web address, then a space and then type the text that goes on the screen then two close square brackets.

Are you saying that the links you post aren’t showing blue?

It appears that that are showing a different colour but it is a very dark teal colour that I can only distinguish if I take my glasses off and I get really close to the screen.

Yet the text anyway is deep grey rather than black.

It is no different with links I put than those that other people have included.

Marydoll Fri 29-Oct-21 14:59:33

EP, I think that blue is the default colour for hyperlinks.
