Could a link in a post be in a different colour please?

It is not always clear if a link is available.

Blue would be good.

I'm on a computer where links are shown in blue and are fairly clear.

Does that include a link that has an ordinary text description such as the word 'here' as in click here for a live news feed?

it looks like you have got a problem @ElderlyPerson. maybe your firewall/anti virus/ software has disabled links for you.

Lexisgranny Fri 29-Oct-21 11:28:23

Links are blue on my iPad.

And mine

If the hyperlink has been posted properly, with the full address, it should show in blue when you preview. That way you know it is active.

Yes, I clicked on it and went straight to Sky News

EP, You have to create a hyperlink using the words click here linked to the original address. It will then become blue.
I have forgotten how to do it, ages since I did it.

Are you saying that the links you post aren’t showing blue?

ElderlyPerson Fri 29-Oct-21 12:17:09

Having read the replies I investigated.

I usually use Google Chrome on a laptop PC.

I tried Microsoft Edge. as well

Upon getting really close to the screen, having removed my glasses, I can tell that the link is in a very dark teal colour, but at normal distance of around 60 centimetres, for which my special glasses optimised for viewing a computer at 60 centimetres have been made, the colour difference is not noticeable to me.

So does the web page actually indicate to have colour or are the browsers making their own decisions about colour when a link is detected in a browser?

I am aware that it could be how I personally discern colours but I do see blue well in other contexts and distinguish colours of the spectrum from each other.

Perhaps there is a browser option for link colours that I could change.

Marydoll Fri 29-Oct-21 14:59:33

EP, I think that blue is the default colour for hyperlinks.

It appears that that are showing a different colour but it is a very dark teal colour that I can only distinguish if I take my glasses off and I get really close to the screen.

Yet the text anyway is deep grey rather than black.

It is no different with links I put than those that other people have included.

It is shown how to do it lower down each page of a thread.

Two open square brackets, then paste in the web address, then a space and then type the text that goes on the screen then two close square brackets.

EP, I wasn't thinking of GN in particular. I used to manage my school website and was always inserting hyperlinks, but sadly I am totally out of practice. sad

EP, in your laptop settings there may be accessibility options which enable you to change the screen tints and colours to something better for you. I can't tell you precisely where it will be because I use a mac, not windows

Thank you for your suggestion.

As a result of your suggestion I have been having a look through the Windows 10 accessibility options. Lots of very detailed things about colour vision impairment, but as far as I can tell nothing about what colour in which to display web links. I have also tried to find anything in the browser software too but if there is a setting I have not found it.

If I remember correctly, years ago choosing the colour in which links were displayed, both before and after clicking them, could be chosen by end users.

Thank you again for your kind suggestion.

I did a bit of research and the only info I could find was how the person making the link can change it, so you have to rely on the poster to make it more visible.

I think if you go into Settings then Display you can adjust your screen settings.

Perhaps you have Night-time mode on which may be duller or you need adjust the brightness on your screen.

Sometimes I miss a link if it just says here in blue in the middle of a sentence.

ElderlyPerson Sat 30-Oct-21 16:44:50

Thank you.

Perhaps it would help if people put HERE rather than here.

For example, please click HERE for something interesting.

And one could have that HERE is a way to have a look around.
