Really riled about this. A poster started a thread earlier today about bossy pisters trying to control threads. A lot of other posters agreed and said they too had often been made to feel uncomfortable, belittled or jeered at by a minority of posters.

A couple of posters then came on accusing the OP of stirring it and saying people should Name names. Other pisters quite rightly pointed out that this was inappropriate and against rules. The thread was then abruptly zapped as 'not being in the spirit...'

Concerned, I started a thread wondering about the zapping and requesting an explanation. Again a majority of posters agreedand also asjed for an explanation. Again, a couple of posters came on saying they didn't like the original thread, and also objected to my thread.

Once again HQ zapped the thread with no proper explanation. What is going on here!

I know, Doodledog, but when you're accused of being a bigot and a Nazi it's very difficult to go back into that arena. Only 3 or 4 posters but that was enough and you very kindly came to my rescue. Those posters can be very different on other threads

I suspect we agree happily on any discussion about dogs germanshepherdsmum. Less so on politics but disagreements are interesting
Please don’t avoid the trans threads. I agree, being accused of being a nazi, bigot, not a real feminist, a terf, or a 70’s feminist who is left in some desolate smug white middle class wimmins place, is indeed grim. Your strong views very welcone

I know what you mean, GSM, and I have had the same ludicrous insults on those threads, amongst others. I know they are nonsense, though, so don't take them to heart.

Why thank you, JaneJudge smile. That's very kind.

I know that people avoid those threads because they often come down to the same posters saying the same things, though, so more and more varied voices would make them more interesting, so do join in again, both of you?

I’ve enjoyed this thread too, and hope it doesn’t get deleted. I read a lot but don’t post much. Some frank discussion is good.

May I say I have really enjoyed this thread and sincerely hope no one has pistered their knickers while reading it.

I always agree with you though doodledog and you are more coherent than me grin

I steer well clear of threads about transwomen, which can get very heated and nasty. I have been well and truly beaten up there and learned not to engage. No, I am not a transwoman or man!!!

I know I've said it before, GSM, but I do wish more people would engage on those threads. They do get heated, but would be less so if there were more voices. It is such an important subject, and much of what people are trying to say gets lost in the arguments.

You're right Callistemon21. I've had my knuckles rapped a couple of times on GN - probably deserved it really - and it's made me more measured, tolerant and polite (I hope) but not less bold.

On balance it's mostly a very good place to be is GN. I genuinely believe there are some great people on here.

Grandmashe43 Wed 16-Feb-22 17:47:44

Coast path, thanks, yes I realise some were trying to lift the thread, but Ihoped it wouldn’t be just laughed off.
Anyway, I’m sure everyone who wants to has had their say, and here’s to the GN we all appreciate, and mostly enjoy very much.

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Feb-22 17:43:25

Mostly on GN I find people clever, funny, interesting and supportive. Sometimes things get heated, but then you can speak immediately afterwards on another thread with the same person about something like gardens or dogs and they are wonderful.
I hope that that is the true spirit of Gransnet, Coastpath although I know it doesn't always happen, sadly.

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Feb-22 17:41:25

oh dear, got it now.
That was last night!

I was trying to lift spirits and diffuse what seemed to be a very tense post in the hope that ...... I think several of us use that tactic on threads.

Doodledog Wed 16-Feb-22 17:37:16

* . . . but to then be followed onto other threads like Chat or TV by posters who seem to want to continue the attacks just isn't on.*
I couldn't agree more. I don't understand that mentality at all. I can very easily go from heated disagreement on one thread to being in full agreement on another (sometimes both at the same time). There is just no need to carry disagreements across threads, and doing so is childish.

Coastpath Wed 16-Feb-22 17:34:57

Grandmashe43 I'm one of the posters who tried to make jokes on here. I didn't mean any harm, I was trying to lift spirits and diffuse what seemed to be a very tense post in the hope that we wouldn't be deleted again.

I don't think I realised that people were wary of posting. I thought that's what people came her for to post opinon and learn from others. Well I've learned something today - they don't all post! I wish they would as I'm here for a wide range of thoughts and experiences.

Mostly on GN I find people clever, funny, interesting and supportive. Sometimes things get heated, but then you can speak immediately afterwards on another thread with the same person about something like gardens or dogs and they are wonderful.

Sorry again Grandmashe43.

Well between the knickers and the pisters, the birdfeeding chicken keepers, the trollops and the Trollops I've read the thread from start to finish and you lot have cracked me up this evening ??

I know this is quite a serious subject really, but I think this is a great thread to show the more reticent posters how much fun you have have posting.

Callistemon21 Wed 16-Feb-22 17:22:45

Yet again, I've missed it all!
