Don’t know if many of you will have looked at Mumsnet today. They’ve changed their logo because of the coronation. I’m anything but a Royalist but think it’s extremely juvenile and disrespectful. Several threads have been started about it, the majority feel as I do.

Ridiculing someone’s features on what is probably the most important day of their life is neither funny or clever.

Wow very surprised at your reaction VS considering how you lecture everyone on kindness and inclusion

You're surprised?

I can't agree with those who think it's in the slightest bit funny.

Mocking someone's physical imperfections is wrong.
DH suffered years of torment at school and even into adulthood because his are similar.

Grow up.

So you were a bully at school?

fancythat Sat 06-May-23 12:31:41

You dont have to answer that. But you can if you want to.

fancythat Sat 06-May-23 12:31:03

What is your worst feature Baggs?

GagaJo Sat 06-May-23 12:27:48

It's not offensive. Not sure why anyone would want to be offended over it.

Baggs Sat 06-May-23 12:18:59

Merely commenting on or using a well-known characteristic as MNHQ have in this instance is not automatically bullying or nasty.

King Charles is not a victim and this cartoon has not made him one. It is not "punching down".

I don’t like people making fun of others especially if they have a physical difference.

But the whole point of cartoon-like comments, which is how I'd class this logo, is that they exaggerate physical characteristics.

Essentially this thread is anti-cartoon. Which, by Andrew Doyle's definition would count as puritanical in the modern sense.

It is certainly sad that Charles was bullied at school but I doubt that was all about his ears – more about his privilege, I suspect (which does not excuse it) – and, anyway, now he's the king. I expect he's pretty resilient about ears now.

nanna8 Sat 06-May-23 12:07:42

Well I must be an old fuddy duddy too. The last thing most would think of me but hey ho. Smacks of schoolyard bullies.

Louella12 Sat 06-May-23 11:59:25

Charles was relentlessly bullied at school. And his ears were pulled as part of the joke

It's cruel. But hey, maybe I'm just a fuddy-duddy-old-fogeyish type.

BlueBelle Sat 06-May-23 11:57:15

Gosh you wouldn’t find anyone less of a puritan than me and
I m far far from a fuddy duddy or an old fogey Baggs ( Keep going, cant you find some more) but I don’t like people making fun of others especially if they have a physical difference. Perhaps you hark back to the old days of four eyes cripple, spaz personally I thought we d moved on with respect of others, but obviously you’re still stuck in the old days
Unkind and disrespectful of Mumsnet

Baggs Sat 06-May-23 11:49:01

I don't think it's disrespectful. I would even argue that it could be seen as quite affectionate. That's how I saw it.

Can't speak for MNHQ of course.

And if people want to be appalled/horrified by something so insignificant, fine. But that does strike me as fuddy-duddy-old-fogeyish and what Andrew Doyle calls new puritanism.

BlueBelle Sat 06-May-23 11:39:23

I m not a royalist and not bothering to watch the coronation but that is horrible and disrespectful and I m very surprised that anyone would consider that funny
Just plain nasty

Mollygo Sat 06-May-23 11:29:29

Did all MN have the right to vote for that?

Blossoming Sat 06-May-23 10:21:40

At least they didn’t include his sausage fingers.

Baggs Sat 06-May-23 10:18:36

I think the outrage on here and MN is silly. It's just a bit of piss-taking about the most pompous day of the year so far.

Disclaimer: I actually think the Coronation is an important day in the UK and Charles's sticky-out ears have always been commented upon, as have those of my middle brother. It's not that big a deal.

Baggs Sat 06-May-23 10:14:58

Wish I knew what the 'pause' effect white lines between the ears are meant to represent.

nanaK54 Sat 06-May-23 10:13:22

Crikey! Who on earth thought that was a good idea.

Caramme Sat 06-May-23 10:06:12

Just plain disrespectful.

AGAA4 Sat 06-May-23 09:34:23

Probably quite funny if you are aged about six.

fancythat Sat 06-May-23 09:15:07

Havent been across, but looks awful.
