Had this dam advert pop up 4 times over the last 2 days and lost 4 posts because of it. 😡😡😡😡

Does anyone know how to block it? I have emailed GNHQ and Aldi about it.

Apple will have a different system which is why iPhones are not affected.

Please please please can GNHQ get rid of it

I generally use an iPad and have never seen this Aldi wheel until yesterday when I used my phone. Couldn’t get rid of the blasted thing.

JenniferEccles Tue 04-Jul-23 10:53:15

GNHQ, can these annoying Aldi ads be removed please?
I hadn’t seen any until this morning and now it keeps happening.
As others have said they are impossible to remove unlike other adverts which, although annoying, can be removed by clicking on the x at the top.
These Aldi ones fill the whole screen on my iPhone.

I have never shopped in Aldi, neither have I looked at their website.

Could something be done to stop these please?

I hadn’t seen this until today. It takes up the entire screen.

Grammaretto

I don't see it on my laptop . It's just on my android phone. The young man in the shop was adamant that he couldn't help. Grrr

Perhaps, like the rest of us, he has no idea how to get rid of it.

This scam has been going on for years, purporting to be from Aldi/ Google/ B&Q and many more.

Surely if it was GN's fault, we would all have problems with it?
Then again, this is not something I know much about.

What puzzles me is that some of us, who are frequently on GN are not experiencing this phishing. I use multiple devices to access GN, with no problems.

Grammaretto Mon 03-Jul-23 12:49:54

I've just been into the EE shop as they are my provider, to see if one of them could investigate.
Once I'd explained that it's only on the Gransnet website I was told it is a problem for Gransnet not my phone

Go to the privacy options on your phone and untick any apps that have permission to use the microphone.

If you have Amazon echo or Google home check the privacy options.

I decided to have a look and see what I could find out about this.

How did potentially unwanted applications install on my computer?

PUAs are distributed via download/installation set-ups of other products. This deceptive marketing tactic of packing regular software with unwanted or malicious additions is called "bundling".

Rushing download/installation processes (e.g. ignoring terms, skipping steps and settings, etc.) increases the risk of inadvertently allowing bundled content into the system.

Some PUAs have "official" download sites. Intrusive advertisements proliferate these applications as well. Once clicked, they can execute scripts to download/install PUAs without users' consent.

How to remove fake pop-ups?

In most cases, pop-up scams do not infect users' devices with malware. If you encountered a scam pop-up, simply closing it should be enough. In some cases scam, pop-ups may be hard to close; in such cases - close your Internet browser and restart it.^

In extremely rare cases, you might need to reset your Internet browser to default settings.

Have just run another full scan, cleaned all files etc searched for malware, all clean and safe.

Shinamae Mon 03-Jul-23 09:23:03

Still, I have never seen this, I’m on iPad

downtoearth Mon 03-Jul-23 09:15:40

Also 4 times in 10 minutes,ad blocker in place,no malware,have cleaned everyday.
A message appeared and flashed off on ad bar at the top saying saying redirection barred as it appeared.

mamaa Mon 03-Jul-23 09:07:39

I’ve not had it before, 4 times now in the last 10 minutes, once whilst reading posts about it. V v annoying

Marydoll Mon 03-Jul-23 07:16:42

My SIL messaged me from IKEA yesterday, asking if I needed anything.
This morning I had an advertising email from IKEA. I haven't been IKEA for years.
That is worrying.

NotSpaghetti Mon 03-Jul-23 07:13:28

I haven't had this till today. Just lost a posts 3 times. 1st was long.
Given up now.
May not manage to post this -

Aldom Mon 03-Jul-23 06:46:25

I first saw the Aldi Spinning Wheel on my phone, whilst on GN, yesterday.
I've cleared my browsing history. I do this regularly, but hadn't realised until I read advice on this thread, that by doing this the Wheel would go.
I saw Aldi.com on the list before clearing. I don't shop there, but last Saturday I messaged my daughter asking her to buy an item for me next time she shopped there. That's the only connection to Aldi!!
Thank you to all on the thread who gave advice and to GN for looking into this. It's very worrying.
I also ran a security scan and I am secure.

AmberSpyglass Mon 03-Jul-23 04:42:47

It just came up for me as well - definitely no malware and it’s not a GN ad. GNHQ, you might want to look at this!

Grammaretto Mon 03-Jul-23 02:09:47

It's back with a vengeance. Twice in the last 5 minutes
What can I do?

downtoearth Fri 30-Jun-23 09:19:14

I tried that but have had twice so far only been on here for 20 minutes ...sigh

Grammaretto Fri 30-Jun-23 09:09:36

Thanks Marydoll I think I have tried that now. No popup today so far 🤞

Marydoll Thu 29-Jun-23 11:42:15

Perhaps this will help. A bit lengthy, but you could give it ago.

The malware must have already infected your phone, which is why you can't get rid of it.
