Hi all

I emailed Gransnet with a suggestion for the above and I have just had a reply.

If you would like to start a thread about this in site stuff, then that would be an ideal way for us to measure interest.
We'll keep an eye and see how many people are interested. This doesn't, of course, mean it'll happen - it just means that we can see if something will be used before taking it to discussion.

Does anyone else think this is a good idea?

Not really.

Sorry, no.

I really like the idea as I often use the voting on mumsnet simply to agree or disagree.

IMHO it’s a bad idea. I’ve watched I don’t know how many posters requesting this since 2011. It’s not going to happen.

MerylStreep Fri 24-Nov-23 16:41:16

Those in favour have no idea how much bad feeling it would cause.
How many times has the word cliques been thrown at posters.

It's not an idea I would support.

But why is it a bad idea?

I very often agree/like someones post and would like to show that I do.

I like the new MN feature of a ‘thanks’ button, where only the original poster can see that thanks have been given, by a little number over the button - but not by whom.

Do you mean the thumbs up as a like button. I would really like a like button to thank people for replying to my post.
Not sure about the down though

SueDonim Fri 24-Nov-23 16:59:12

No from me. I think it could be very off putting for newcomers (and maybe regulars too) to be ‘judged’ by their posts in that way.

Germanshepherdsmum Fri 24-Nov-23 16:59:47

If you like or dislike someone’s post it’s easy enough to say so Welshy. You can just use an emoji if you have nothing to add.

That's fair enough Germanshepherdsmum smile I didn't even think of that.

But thank you all for your replies.

Yes, but we won’t get it we ve asked many times and for an edit button

Oldnproud Fri 24-Nov-23 18:27:31

I prefer a straightforward 'like' button, rather than the up-vote/down-vote button.

Much easier and more sensible (imo) than adding a comment or an emoji that might be separated by several comments or even several pages of comments from the 'liked' post.

Visgir1 Fri 24-Nov-23 18:29:26

👎 No from me

That is a good idea, as I was referring more to liking posts.

No from me. It would be so disheartening for someone especially if a new poster if they got a lot of downward buttons.

Shelflife Fri 24-Nov-23 18:48:00

It is a very definate NO from me.

That is exactly why I very much like a simple 'like' button on what is meant to be a friendly, supportive site.
The option to down-vote is totally unnecessary.
