As I said earlier it was more to 'like' peoples comments, as I do many. As a 'Hear Hear' I agree.
So I should have put more thought into it.

That is exactly why I very much like a simple 'like' button on what is meant to be a friendly, supportive site.
The option to down-vote is totally unnecessary.

I prefer a straightforward 'like' button, rather than the up-vote/down-vote button.

Much easier and more sensible (imo) than adding a comment or an emoji that might be separated by several comments or even several pages of comments from the 'liked' post.

That is a good idea, as I was referring more to liking posts.

No from me. I think it could be very off putting for newcomers (and maybe regulars too) to be ‘judged’ by their posts in that way.

Do you mean the thumbs up as a like button. I would really like a like button to thank people for replying to my post.
Not sure about the down though

I like the new MN feature of a ‘thanks’ button, where only the original poster can see that thanks have been given, by a little number over the button - but not by whom.

IMHO it’s a bad idea. I’ve watched I don’t know how many posters requesting this since 2011. It’s not going to happen.
