Using Gransnet - crossings out

(134 Posts)

Can anyone tell me why some people’s posts are partly crossed through? There doesn’t seem to be any rhyme or reason to it and it is puzzling me. Does Gransnet do it? I can’t see it being the poster as, surely, they could just delete the bit that shouldn’t be there.
I’d love to know!

The tricky bit is getting in front of the hyphen after the word in order to insert another hyphen. I don’t have a cursor, just a clumsy finger.

testing

Works for me, thank you.

Only trouble by the time I need to use it I will have forgotten how to!

I seem to manage fine Are you using the correct dashes?

Oh dear

maddyone Sun 09-Feb-25 14:29:37

it works

Well it does on my iPad.
I click on the word which is crossed out in the Styling list, represented by I in a circle, and then just write whatever I’m saying, with a tongue in cheek comment, and it works.

I haven’t explained that very well. I must be a bit dim.

I don’t like them, either say what you are going to say or don’t say it.

Well, I opened a fine old can of worms there, didn’t I? 😂

Each to their own!

No-one is being forced to use this technique.😉

So no space doesn’t work and leaving a space doesn’t work. 🤷‍♀️

NotSpaghetti Sun 09-Feb-25 17:33:43

I like it.
But then I've only ever seen it used humorously!

Well that didn't work! And I did exactly as suggested; hyphen, then used cursor to insert another hyphen in front of the initial one, no spaces, word, then hyphen and further hyphen inserted before it! 🤔

I’ve never understood the lines, always thought he poster had made a mistake but it read fine to me. but then I am I bit thick. I want know if there is a delete button on here as I am always posting too soon before reading 🙄

Just ‘preview’ your message before posting.

If you have made a mistake, you can correct it.

No need to delete or edit.

It’s not easy on an iPad.

It’s hard to get it in after the word, no space if you don’t have a cursor.

As I learned from FGT first do the hyphen - then go to the left of it and do it again so have you got this -- ?

Then write your word, then do your hyphen and again go to the left to do your last hyphen so you should then have this it’s a real long winded process though

Blimey hope I ve got it right

BlueBelle Mon 10-Feb-25 08:03:18

It’s going to the left of the hyphen that makes the difference

SparklyGrandma Mon 10-Feb-25 08:05:49

Is it like Morse? ..-..?
