When someone reports a post (often on an old chat) why is the post not deleted?

Apologies if this has been explained before, but I find it strange that a person can revive an old chat with a link that is commercial or otherwise, someone writes ‘reported’ underneath and the post is not deleted. It might help us to realise what is happening instead of continuing an old chat. Although some old chats are interest still.
For example Wall Art in Arts and Craft.

Well, I often do a search to look up old threads and I can’t see why the thread should be removed. Eg I looked up the air fryer one the other day as I was attempting to use one for the first time and wanted to read up on the advice it gave. Always pleased to have extra advice added. And I looked up an old film thread having only just watched that particular film. Also there are some threads with recipes in that I look up. Sometimes want to remind myself of things that I’ve commented on. Not on here but on Facebook when my dog was poorly this week I wanted to see when I’d asked for advice about the same problem so I could tell the vet ( it was 12 weeks).

Just reporting a post does not necessarily mean it will be deleted.

I’m referring to spam posts. Posts that restart a chat when they are obviously post an advertising link for example. I know reporting a post does not mean it always is wrong or needs removing but obvious ones where the poster appears just to post a link for a website for example.

I think that deleting the spammers post is done, but there’s no need to delete the whole thread because, as OP’s say, the content within the thread can continue to be useful.

I totally agree that there is no need to delete the whole thread. I’ve found older subjects interesting and have at times thought it would be interesting to read an update from the OP. My only thought was that the spam poster’s link still seemed to be there after being reported. Maybe the reported spam isn’t spam after all.
