I've been a member of GN for almost 10 year and have always thought it clique-y in the sense that posts on almost any subject can quickly become full of banter and in-group comments. Of course it isn't intentionally exclusive but that can be the effect.

Is this behaviour appropriate.
(202 Posts)GNHQ have commented on this thread. Read here.
This thread is not about the rights and wrongs of the banning of Allira. There is an active second thread where the whole matter can be and is being discussed in detail for anyone who is interested. GNHQ has not deleted it ( nor the previous one). However, a group of posters on that thread decided to take their campaign onto other completely unrelated threads. It’s irritating at least when these posts pop up but matters reached a new low today when it was thought appropriate to bring mention of the matter onto the thread about Henry Nowak. What next? The bereavement thread? A thread about someone with a serious illness? Can you just stop it and keep the campaign where it belongs? Start more threads if you want for example but just butt out of unrelated threads.

Most social media platforms have a like/dislike button. I don’t see why it would cause unpleasantness on this site when it appears to work well on others.
Are like buttons anonymous?
Would that spark up the number one ladies detective agency to try and work out who the silent "liker" was?

Yes I know that. But not all social media platforms are like GN/MN. There’s an easy way to like or not like a post if you feel strongly about it isn’t there?

Tuliptree no one owns a thread nor can they dictate the direction it takes.
Quite right.
Its in pretty poor taste though, regardless.
I think it depends on your point of view really. I see nothing wrong in showing support by using a button and I see nothing particularly different about MN/GN as opposed to other platforms. Sone pretty robust discussions happen there also. We may have to agree to disagree on this as it’s not really what this thread is all about - so good morning to you and I will move on.
But a group of you decided to deliberately spam threads didn’t you in support of Allira regardless ? As if you thought you owned GN -let alone a thread
You sound very angry @Tuliptree - who do you mean by as if you thought you owned GN etc
I'm reminded why I don't post very often like Kandinsky
I can't bear to think of that poor young man Henry Nowak and how he died so I didn't look at that thread.

You know very well what I mean - I’m not the only one on this thread who thinks what’s been happening is inappropriate. And disagreeing means being angry does it? Oh sorry very angry .
It is far easier to ignore posts/posters or indeed entire threads if they cause anguish or anger.
Reading and or participating is not compulsory.
Personally, I think the GNHQ posts covered everything.
I think the threads about Allira do her no favours at all. I think it made things a whole heap worse[though going by poster[s] who seem to have been in contact with her, she was happy for them to continue.
I have been very surprised that GNHQ let it all carry on.
I wonder if that was why they have let them all continue.

*Tuliptree*, you cannot dictate how are thread evolves. Conversations drift on here as in real life.
What Tulip refers to is not "thread drift". It's a concerted agenda of a single tactic across multiple threads, as Aveline confirms below
As the person who suggested *bringing Allira into other threads I should explain that this was to emphasise the strength of feeling by her friends to the GN management.
Which makes no sense, unless those people are purposely trying to get their posts reported to GN and deleted for breaking GN rules ; are they trying to provoke a mass ban?
The heartfelt intention is irrelevent. Any group campaign to disrupt conversation with their own agenda, is controlling behaviour .
It's a poorly thought out and needs to stop, for all the reasons Tulip and Doodle have explained.
I agree with the OP. The going on to other threads to support Allira are annoying and unnecessary. Going on the Henry Nowak thread to do this is disgraceful.
I think it is good that people who are campaigning for Allira have their own thread and that is where it should be kept. I don't think the banning was nessasary.
I think going on other threads will cause upset and annoyance.
Cliques dont bother me, however I get the point someone made. I noticed on a thread the same three posters were discussing with each other and other posts equally interesting and on point were ignored.
I accept posters are friends and go to meet ups but this should not impact threads with other posters feeling ignored. Friendships should be kept of threads, and for meet ups. I have only done one meet up with a very nice lady, but it is never mentioned on the threads.
I equally like mumsnet and gransnet, but mumsnet are not like this it is more equal.

Completely misses the point but I guess you know this.

I understood what you mean, but asked who you were addressing your comment to.
Different thing.
OK you new thread police, how do you suggest we continue to convey our distress at our friend's unfair exclusion from this site? We never understood why it happened and GNs explanation made no sense. If nothing else it made us aware that the most innocent posters could be next!
I think Tuliptree means posters who are supporters of Allira who think it’s appropriate to post support of her on threads that are not relevant to her ban. I think it’s clear enough.
That is scaremongering to those who lack confidence, and far too much of this has been going already on in my opinion.
I was addressing Aveline in that comment above.
Adeline, you can continue to convey your distress on the thread that was started to support Allira.
It’s unfair to posters such as me who do not want involvement in this, who come onto Gransnet for information randomly about health, vacuum cleaners, travel and some light hearted chat.
Yes, feelings are running very high nobody doubts that. But this is not the way to go about getting her reinstated. Surely you can see that?
Sorry, typo, AVELINE not ADELINE
It also creates a danger that posters will associate Alirra herself with this scaremongering and thread intrusion and truly, I ask, how on earth is this helpful to her?

Rubbish, the poster pointed out that it was distasteful to bring this banning up on the Henry Nowak thread. It's also irritating.

Oh dear - well what you’re doing now isn’t helping is it? There’s a thread which is allowed to stand, what more do you actually want? Maybe start a petition on a thread and get people to sign up? Or you could all leave if GN is such terrible place? Calling people who don’t like your tactics ‘thread police’ is hardly helping your cause is it? IMO you’ve painted yourselves into a corner and made it just about impossible for GN to allow A back .
