I would like to say something that is not going to be popular, but I think it needs saying, even though I expect to be shouted down.

I have said before, and will say again that I feel uncomfortable about threads being chattered over by a group of people with an agenda. I may (or may not) agree with that agenda, but that’s not the point.

The board is for all of us, and people come to threads at different times of day and night, so because you (generic) think all that needs to be said has been said does not mean that everyone else has had her say. It’s harder to join in a thread about, say, a politician if people are all talking about kittens, so the thread has, effectively, been controlled.

I am in favour of Allira’s reinstatement, but am aware of the fact that one of the charges against her (so one of the things that could get any of us banned) is controlling threads, and IMO people repeatedly talking amongst themselves is doing just that. Not the ‘eggs’ chat on the relevant thread (although that thread is quite exclusionary too, it is easily avoided) but the casual references on all sorts of other threads, and the thinly veiled comments about how ‘some people’ won’t like it. That is vaguely threatening- it’s clear that if you don’t like it you are not ‘one of us’, and will probably find your posts being ignored at one extreme or criticised at the other. Not everyone is happy to stand up to that.

Many people are still unaware of the issues surrounding the current situation. I have now been told of the suspicions thanks to a PM, but not everyone has been. Being unable to join in makes people feel excluded- well, they are being excluded.

Much of this has happened because HQ were high-handed in the way they dealt with the case, and the fact that they haven’t been open about their decision since. To be fair though, what they have said has led to accusations of character assassination, so they are in something of a cleft stick.

Anyway, I’ve said my piece, and will leave it at that. I am not looking for enemies, but feel a bit uneasy about posting this as I know from experience how it can feel to have an opinion that is contrary to the zeitgeist.

News and politics. not "new"

Wyllow3 Sun 07-Jun-26 23:40:38

Its actually GNHQ guidance not to allude to one thread on another - for obvious reasons, if you have a thread on such and such then you get loads o interruption its not possible to carry on with the O/P

Except of course briefly to point the way to a pre-existing thread on the topic.

to newbies: well in New and Politics one does get to know people who are broadly in agreement on a way of approaching a number of subject, but to keep it understandable?

I'm relatively new too,I don't post a lot but I do read things that interest me,there is a definite clique on the site ,reminds me of the mums at the school gates,if you don't fit you're not in and yes I noticed the comments on the Henry Nowak thread and agree they're not necessary and should remain on the appropriate page

I too think this site is very cliquey. I read but almost never post, it seems to me that if you don't agree with the frequent posters views you get shot down. I can't call many threads discussions they are just statements of views and heaven help you if you are brave enough to disagree.

Posting on unrelated threads was discussed as a tactic on the disappearing members thread and then implemented by some of Allira’s supporters from that thread. I fail to see how this will help their cause - in fact, maybe the opposite.

I didn’t know it had popped up inappropriately like this, am a bit confused as to what has actually happened and why with regard to this member, am relatively new to this site, but am aware it was discussed appropriately on a thread about disappearing members.
But yes it is out of order to bring this up all over the place, especially on serious threads which should focus on the topic in hand.

I agree. I didnt really know that Allira was banned ….. that’s how observant I am 😂

This thread is not about the rights and wrongs of the banning of Allira. There is an active second thread where the whole matter can be and is being discussed in detail for anyone who is interested. GNHQ has not deleted it ( nor the previous one). However, a group of posters on that thread decided to take their campaign onto other completely unrelated threads. It’s irritating at least when these posts pop up but matters reached a new low today when it was thought appropriate to bring mention of the matter onto the thread about Henry Nowak. What next? The bereavement thread? A thread about someone with a serious illness? Can you just stop it and keep the campaign where it belongs? Start more threads if you want for example but just butt out of unrelated threads.
