We've been asked by L'Oreal to find out from gransnetters about beauty tips that have been passed between the generations.

So, what beauty tips did you get from your mother? Maybe she had some great skincare tips that you've followed for years? Or perhaps you have some beauty tips that you've shared with your daughter? Or maybe some tips that you definitely won't be handing down!

Whatever your top tips are - L'Oreal would love to hear about them!

Everyone who adds a comment to this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a L'Oreal goodie bag worth £200.

Please note your anonymous comments may be included on L'Oreal's social media channels, and possibly elsewhere, so please only post if you're comfortable with this.

My mum's top tip is not to use too many face wipes - she swears that they help to create wrinkles by pulling your face this way, then that way. Years ago I was sceptical but I tend to agree with her now!

My mum's best beauty tip was to smile - she always smiled and still does. She used to say 'Smiling instantly makes you look and feel better, and make others feel the same way.'

Mum always told me to wear SPF, even when the sun isn't out - she looks very young for her age (in fact lots of people think we're sisters rather than mother and daughter!) so I've also started with the inclusion of a high SPF moisturiser with my daily skincare routine x

Gilla01 Tue 10-Feb-15 16:27:11

My mother always told me to remember the moisturiser, both for face and hands.

Always wear sunglasses to prevent wrinkles, always have vasaline as it has a multitude of uses. Drink plenty of water. Confidence is the best look & let your inner beauty shine through

Exercise as well as diet to lose weight more effectively.

The best advice that my mother gave me is that less is definitely more and also not to follow trends because everyone else is, if you find a style that suits you, stick with it

My mum swore by getting a good nights sleep. On the whole I find this is true. I rarely suffer from bags under the eyes and problems are always seem to get sorted better if I am wide awake and not tired

jenniwren12 Tue 10-Feb-15 16:41:44

my mum said to always take your make-up off at night and don't squeeze spots! :-)

funkyfish586 Tue 10-Feb-15 16:47:57

I was told that full brows are more flattering and not to go tweezer crazy.

My mum has always told me that ,when it comes to hair colouring, you ought to stick with the shades that most flatter your complexion..Also, she's always told me to always remove my make up at night

My mother always told me not to use soap on my face, and I never have. She bought me my first cream - a tub of Ponds Cold Cream - to use very day. It seems very old fashioned now, but sometimes the old ways are the best! She also taught me to add lemon juice to the final rinse when washing my hair, for a lovely shine.

BlueNile57 Tue 10-Feb-15 17:52:49

my mother said always remove your make up every night (not matter how tired or pi**ed you are lol) and cleanse, tone and moisturise

lemonbuns Tue 10-Feb-15 17:53:30

My mum had a thing about olive oil-using it as a make up remover and body lotion! It's cheap and effective, if maybe a bit heavy for some complexions.

jodiecrossley1 Tue 10-Feb-15 18:07:53

My mum told me always keep out of the sun and use suncream

kamoc Tue 10-Feb-15 18:13:01

I always forget all the beauty tips I get given!

Ikea1234 Tue 10-Feb-15 18:14:42

I was told the old maxim you can have a face or a figure, not both. My size 8 sister has the figure......

JoJoB Tue 10-Feb-15 18:28:01

She told me never to rub my eyes as it would damage the skin.

goose1964 Tue 10-Feb-15 18:49:52

my mum told me to use the best quality products you can afford , not sure if this is the reason I get asked if my my grandsons are my sons or if it's good genes

rosemac6 Tue 10-Feb-15 18:52:15

Always thoroughly cleanse and moisturise before bed and Apply neck cream from under chin to bust

rachelheap2015 Tue 10-Feb-15 19:05:09

Always take your makeup off before bed time and use a good moisturiser

Marmight Tue 10-Feb-15 19:32:51

Always apply cream 'upwards' on the face and 'downwards' on the neck. I still do the downwards bit in the misguided hope that the turkey neck might disappear by the next morning grin

pennwood Tue 10-Feb-15 19:33:06

My Mum always advised me to moisturise my elbows daily, & plenty of hand cream to keep my hands & nails in tip top condition as neglecting these was the biggest give away of a ladies true age.

robinson131 Tue 10-Feb-15 19:37:24

My gran always told me to never wash my face with soap and water because it dries your skin out.

clarejw Tue 10-Feb-15 19:39:47

My mum always said keep it simple. Plain water on our face and just a little Nivea to moisturise. It was hreat advice.
