We all know that beneath every mild-mannered gransnetter lies the spirit of a younger, and perhaps wilder you - so we're asking what thing from your past your family or friends might be surprised at.

Whether it was that short stint as a rock groupie, being arrested on a CND rally, or even sporting a punk haircut and being expelled from school for it - L'Oreal would love to hear about them.

Take a look at L'Oreal's video and see what other surprises people have in their pasts:

Ashamed to say I played with matches. No child should do this!

It's the first time I've posted and, no, not because it's a competition, but because I'm new. I got really drunk at my boss's Christmas party, snogged his best friend (old enough to be my father) in the taxi all the way to the station and passed out on the train. Luckily, (or not), someone recognised me and looked after me and ensured I got out at the right station. It's true!

Having read through some posts here which highlight the fact that L'Oreal test on animals, I will be deleting my account with Gransnet, I wonder if those who have brought this to our attention will also take this action. Why would you continue to be a part of something which is promoting and I quote "the evil that is L'Oreal"

janeainsworth Thu 21-May-15 02:54:48

Perhaps, Mellwinkle, it's because by continuing to comment on and criticise GN for their association with L'Oreal, they think that's more effective than simply deleting their account?

I can't be bothered to trawl back now and see exactly who made those posts, but I'm pretty sure nightowl and mishap were among them. Both of them are regular posters who have made valuable contributions to Gransnet and I'd be very sorry to see either of them leave.

I don't remember seeing you posting before, though.

Greenfinch Thu 21-May-15 08:52:27

Mellwinkle while I applaud your sentiments and see exactly where you are coming from, I would urge you not to leave but to stay and fight .If you leave you will be forgotten but if you stay you can be an on going thorn in the flesh. I think most people who responded to this thread were unthinking rather than uncaring Bur L'Oreal does need to be exposed and perhaps the publicity here is one way of doing it. Animals do have rights.

nightowl Thu 21-May-15 09:12:22

Thank you janea for those kind words smile

You are quite right; I won't be deleting my account on the grounds of gransnet's association with L'Oreal for just the reasons you and Greenfinch highlight. I prefer to be the 'thorn in the flesh' and will continue to harass GNHQ about this issue and to pop up on different threads to make the point that animal testing is still an issue despite the EU ban. I think the more of us that are prepared to speak out the better, so why not stay Mellwinkle?

nightowl Thu 21-May-15 09:17:48

Thank you for the link grannyactivist I think that is one of the clearest explanations I have seen.

Greenfinch Thu 21-May-15 10:51:07

You are absolutely right nightowl. I wish I knew how to do more to prevent the cruelty these companies engage in.

edmontonkitty Thu 21-May-15 12:37:29

I'm one of those posting because it's a competition: So what? Why would anyone want to read or write the drivel on most of these forums if it wasn't because cash was involved?
My secret? I had a threesome on holiday (and enjoyed it)

Greenfinch Thu 21-May-15 13:08:16

What's your problem? Some of us really enjoy GN and have made new friends through it. Drivel it certainly is not.

Tegan Thu 21-May-15 13:14:15

imo edmontonkitty should not be allowed to enter the competition and his/her post should be deleted by HQ.

Elegran Thu 21-May-15 13:42:36

There are plenty of competitions where you don't have to join something you think is "a load of drivel". Why not stick to those, and leave the "drivel" to those who joined for the company, not the cash?

Or you could try actually - shock horror! - reading the posts on the forum you have added your name to. You might be surprised to find that there is more in them than a one in a million chance of winning a prize you didn't even want in the first place.

I was once a roadie for erasure back in the day!

lemonbuns Thu 21-May-15 17:21:41

Getting drunk on red wine and doing really bad dancing in night clubs!

daisybeebee Thu 21-May-15 18:25:33

As a University student, working my way around Europe with a friend, I took a job as a knife throwers assistant in Cannes. I was terrified but the money was better than cleaning. My daughter , for once, was lost for words when she found out.

petallus Thu 21-May-15 18:50:57

I find the question subtely patronising (and ageist).

petallus Thu 21-May-15 18:51:29

Or is it subtley?

zorran Thu 21-May-15 19:41:50

I put a dead mouse that the cat had brought in on the grass outside our house in a cul de sac because my dad told me to. Our next door neighbours went mad!

Misha14 Thu 21-May-15 19:56:19

I'm about to have an erotic novel published.

jkenn Thu 21-May-15 20:47:50

I was arrested on International womens day & even though I cried all the way to the police station because I was locked in a cell in the van. I felt the charge of obstruction of the highway was something I could live with.

I got detention at college for taking my course tutors bike and putting it on the roof of the college

LaraGransnet (GNHQ) Fri 22-May-15 16:15:26

Thanks all - this is now closed. Though I suspect there are more stories you've been keeping to yourselves... wink

jules56 Fri 22-May-15 18:02:49

I nearly missed the coach home after a trip out, had been drinking and smoking dope

sue119 Fri 22-May-15 18:35:03

I don't think |I did anything that outlandish, my parents were incredibly strict and I never really escaped from their upervision. I was a hippy for a while, but a pretty lonely one!
