Thinking ahead to a time when you will no longer be here is undoubtedly not a pleasant thought. The majority of us plan other big life events such as birthdays, weddings, baby showers and/or anniversaries down to a tee, however when it comes to funerals very few of us have detailed plans in place. If there's something in particular you have in mind, whether it’s something beautiful, something personal, or even something humorous, Co-op Funeralcare would like to know.

Here’s what David Collingwood, Head of Operations for Co-op Funeralcare has to say: “Funerals are very much about personal choice and reflecting the personality and interests of an individual. This is becoming increasingly evident through the growth we’ve seen in people choosing to pre-plan their own ceremonies using a funeral plan.”

Do you have a specific piece of poetry that you want read out by a certain someone? Maybe you’d request that all of your friends and family turn up in fancy dress? Or perhaps you already have in mind a certain song that will put a smile on everyone’s face...Monty Python’s ‘Always Look on the Bright Side of Life’ and Frank Sinatra’s ‘My Way’ are popular songs requested for funerals!

Co-op Funeralcare would like to know what your funeral wishes are, so please share them below and all who comment will be entered into a prize draw, where one lucky GNer will win a £300 voucher or their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I would like a full Catholic service with all the old hymns like the lord is my Sheppard and abide with me, lots of floral tributes and a burial with all my family and friends at the graveside followed by a lively wake with plenty of good food and wine, I am leaving the money for this in my will and hope that my wished will be carried out

Maggiemaybe Fri 29-Sept-17 17:54:31

Certainly the cardboard coffin, and no daft expense, but I'd like a proper goodbye. A quick rundown of my life and times, a couple of the old hymns or songs that mean something to me and mine (Days perhaps, or the aptly named Good Riddance). And a message for those I leave behind, in case I haven't had time to make my goodbyes. Followed by a get-together with plenty of good food and wine. I've written it all down - if my nearest and dearest remember that I've done that I might just get what I want. grin

Each to their own, of course, but I don't see anything cringe-worthy about a proper send off.

My husband and I don't intend to have funerals as we will donate our bodies for medical students to practice on. smile

prwilson Sat 30-Sept-17 01:56:50

I'm not really that bothered because I'll be dead. Stick me in the ground, play a few songs, say a few words.

andywedge Sat 30-Sept-17 01:56:53

Lots of Beatles music, lots of booze, lots of laughter and fun. Hell, I wanna go out with people laughing and remembering the fun times not crying and being sad.

Simple cremation cheapest option. I would like to go out to El viva a Fulham the 1975 FA cup song.

liane1987 Sat 30-Sept-17 06:09:16

I don't want my family or friends to mourn, i want it to be a happy event...looking back at all the good times and not the bad. I want people to wear colour and have personal songs playing, rather than hymns.

Cremation and the ashes to the sea

emmal01 Sat 30-Sept-17 06:40:42

I'd like a huge party with singing and dancing

sscrase Sat 30-Sept-17 07:07:31

I've changed my mind from wanting to be buried to now wanting to be cremated. I don't want my children to feel obliged to visit my grave when I'm gone.

pamelaJEAN Sat 30-Sept-17 07:14:02

I want the cheapest funeral possible, my children need the money rather then spend out on a lavish funeral. The music to be played The air that I breathe , by the Hollies , the first record my husband bought me. We live next door to the local village cemetery, and right next to our fence is a huge walnut tree, some years are better than others, but I have gathered many walnuts and made walnut cakes etc. I want my ashes scattering around the beautiful old tree.

lornajk Sat 30-Sept-17 07:18:37

I really don't want any kind of funeral at all, so it's a case of keeping it simple. My family know this, so I would trust them to do whatever suited them, they are the ones who are going to have to deal with it when the time comes after all.

Anya Sat 30-Sept-17 07:33:03

I've left envelopes with my 'children' stating my wishes (many of which seem to be reflected in the above posts) ....but what's the betting that neither of them will be able to find them when the time comes!! ?

vonniebab2 Sat 30-Sept-17 07:40:59

I would like to be cremated and my ashes scattered under the tree with my mum dad and brother, I don't want any flowers or fuss no one wearing black no notices in the newspaper or memorial stone

hippyhappy Sat 30-Sept-17 07:47:36

Both my husband and I have discussed this and we both think funeral directors charge far too much money for a funeral. So, we would like to be buried in a bin bag and taken to the crematorium in a hired Transit van. Death is for the living so unfortunately that may never happen and my family will probably put more profit into the hands of the undertaker.

Grannyknot Sat 30-Sept-17 07:57:23

Traditional Western coffins are dead boring. I'd like an African art style coffin painted up to look like a whale. My body can be tipped out of it for cremation and it can be left in the garden for my grandchildren to play in. My ashes can be scattered ... anywhere people fancy.

ames2906 Sat 30-Sept-17 08:06:05

I would like to be cremated and my ashes to be scattered wherever my children see most fit.

janeyf Sat 30-Sept-17 08:45:54

I don't want any fuss or much money spent on my funeral. Low key is best. As long as I am buried as close to my parents as possible, that is all that matters to me

lizd31 Sat 30-Sept-17 08:49:50

I don't want an expensive funeral. I would like an eco casket & I want it to be fun, for people to celebrate my life, not mourn my death. I don't want a grave, I just want my ashes to be scattered at teh top of my garden with the ashes of all my cats who have died before me so we can all be together again.

mbody Sat 30-Sept-17 09:43:36

I would like to be cremated with some rousing hymns and for my ashes to be interred with headstone to mark my days on earth. Then a jolly good wake with lots of laughs, hopefully about me!!

happysouls Sat 30-Sept-17 09:51:31

No funeral, no casket...I'd like to be burned in a cardboard box and scattered somewhere beautiful but only where my ashes won't cause any environmental damage!

falconer Sat 30-Sept-17 10:11:22

Cremation with no ceremony, nothing whatsoever. If my wife and children have to suffer my death, the last thing they need would be to have to so so publicly.

maryandbuzz1 Sat 30-Sept-17 10:11:26

I would like a woodland funeral and then ashes to be scattered in the woodland. I would like everyone to wear clothes they are comfortable in and instead of flowers I would like contributions to an animal charity

madge47 Sat 30-Sept-17 10:36:31

I want to be buried.I find it a comfort going to visit my mums grave so hoping my sons will also find it a comfort. Its really expensive so hoping to pay it myself so they dont have to worry.

Maggiemaybe Sat 30-Sept-17 10:49:00

I think the dress code will be traditional at my do. I wouldn't presume to tell my girls they can't wear black - they know how good they look in it (and I've always been a bit partial to a LBD myself)!

I've left envelopes with my 'children' stating my wishes (many of which seem to be reflected in the above posts) ....but what's the betting that neither of them will be able to find them when the time comes!!
They sound just like my lot, Anya.....
