Take Five, have launched their new ‘Too Smart To Be Scammed?’ test, as part of Take Five to Stop Fraud week and they would love you to take the test and share your result and your thoughts.

Here’s what Take Five have to say: “Take Five to Stop Fraud is a national campaign that offers advice to help everyone protect themselves from preventable financial fraud. It educates individuals to help them spot scams and urges people to stop and consider whether the situation is genuine – to Take Five and think if what you’re being told really makes sense. Remember, ‘My money? My info? I don’t think so.”

It is becoming increasingly difficult to spot a scam as criminals are more sophisticated than ever; however there are still steps you can take to protect yourself and learn how to spot a scam before you have given away any personal details. Take the test, find out if you’re too smart to be scammed and let us know what you think. How did you score? Did you learn a new way to protect yourself from scams and frauds? What did you find the hardest about spotting a scam? Were there any bits you were surprised you got wrong or right?

Everyone who takes the quiz and posts on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one GNer will win a £300 voucher of their choice (from a list).

Thanks and good luck!

I really surprised myself and scored eight, without even guessing. I am ultra cautious, as my card was cloned once. It’s not a nice feeling to know someone has taken a lot of your money.

6/8 because I didn't trust genuine messages. I don't think you can be too cautious. Better safe than sorry!

Ingrid45 Fri 02-Feb-18 16:34:49

I got 8/8 but I was being particularly cautious. As a general rule I wouldn't give details to anyone unless I had contacted them on a known number. it's a scary world out there!

Kerenza Fri 02-Feb-18 18:28:02

I got 8 out of 8 but I think my success was because I has taken a similar test a few weeks ago through one of the online newspapers where I got one wrong. This made me more cautious, which I'm sure is the aim of the tests, by making me much more aware of what to look for when I receive these messages and emails. smile

6/8 for me - I don't trust anyone!

prwilson Sat 03-Feb-18 03:26:47

I got 6 out of 8, I erred on the side of caution on a couple of the genuine ones.

jackier333 Sat 03-Feb-18 03:56:56

5 out of 8 for me - not great!!!!

jimlauchlan Sat 03-Feb-18 04:47:41

I got 7 as well. I got the text question wrong :-(

BeHappy Sat 03-Feb-18 05:08:42

I got 7 out of 8 I'm quite happy with that smile

createbeauty Sat 03-Feb-18 06:14:07

I scored 7/8. Some scams look quite genuine.

The only safe rule is never to click on an email link unless you are sepcifically expecting it, e.g. when you are registering onto something and you have to confirm your email address.

What I always do is check the links (you can do this on Apple computers by hovering over the links). If they look dubious, not what they claim to be, I just delete the email they came in. If the link looks as if it might be genuine, I go to the website of the sender and check that way.

It's worth remembering that there are very few times when you need to click on a link in an unsolicited email. Just don't do it. Get to where the link is trying to send you via another route (web browser) if you feel you must.

Only 5 out of 8. Oh dear. However, I said no to all the ones about text messages, but that's because my bank would never text me and I would suspect anything like that. I don't do online banking either. We have all got to keep on our toes these days eh?

pusinky Sat 03-Feb-18 07:50:54

7/8 it can be tricky to spot a scam. Some fraudsters are quite sophisticated.

emmal01 Sat 03-Feb-18 07:56:40

Embarrassed that I only got 5/8, at least I was erring on the side of caution!

sophie56 Sat 03-Feb-18 07:59:22

7/8 I would have got 8/8 but I was sloppy in reading one question. I do hate all the spam/fraudulent e-mails that come in, there are some wicked people out there.

Humph Sat 03-Feb-18 08:07:58

I got 6 out of 8 - far too cautious

bikergran Sat 03-Feb-18 08:11:54

7/8 wasnt sure about the mgs from the bank

MimiJoy Sat 03-Feb-18 08:24:13

I got 6 out of 8 -I'm actually quite shocked as I regard myself as being ultra cautious about bogus calls and texts. A good quiz that points out that we're all vulnerable and need to be even more vigilant.

Helsbells68 Sat 03-Feb-18 08:27:01

8/8
I enter a lot of competitions, how can tell if an email saying I have won something is genuine?

Norgran Sat 03-Feb-18 08:39:26

7/8 for me, better to be over cautious I suppose.

glenka Sat 03-Feb-18 08:45:14

I got 5 out of 8, the ones I got wrong were the ones that are genuine from the bank. It's always hard these days to know what's right and wrong sometimes.

GlitterFizz Sat 03-Feb-18 08:51:50

I got 7/8 and i am suprised that I got one wrong as i thought i was really good at spotting fraudulent requests! Its so worrying how real some of the texts seem!

maryandbuzz1 Sat 03-Feb-18 09:08:15

Oops only got 4 out of 8 so will read take 5 with interest

finemang Sat 03-Feb-18 09:09:30

lovedayjoan Sat 03-Feb-18 09:23:01
