It’s natural to wonder about what the world might look like in the future, particularly for our loved ones. Sometimes this can be a worrying prospect but it’s comforting to know there are things we can do now to help our family members thrive in the future, whether it’s creating a safe home for them, instilling the life lessons we’ve learnt in our grandchildren, or leaving gifts and donations to charity. With this in mind, Cancer Research UK would like to hear your hopes for the future generations of your family.

Here’s what Cancer Research UK has to say: “A Will is one of the most important documents you’ll ever write. It’s the only way to make sure the people and the causes you care about are looked after, and it’s where you can decide what happens to your money and possessions. Once your family and friends are taken care of, a gift to Cancer Research UK – no matter how big or small – really makes a difference for future generations.

Thanks to our amazing supporters, Gifts in Wills fund over a third of our life-saving work, helping us to make treatments even more effective for future generations, bringing forward the day when nobody fears the disease.”

What advice do you give to your grandchildren about how to achieve their hopes and dreams? How do you hope the world will be for future generations and what steps do you take now to help achieve this? Have you thought about writing a Will? Would you consider leaving a gift in your Will to Cancer Research UK to ensure your family grow up in a world where more people survive cancer?

All who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw taking place on 22/02, where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Vouchers of winner's choice will be an e-voucher ordered via the Voucher Express platform. Choice will be dependent on availability at the time. Winners will also have an option to select a 'VEX Gift Certificate" which will give them the option to select a physical voucher or gift card from the full Voucher Express range.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

I will tell my grandchildren not to wait for things/situations to be 'perfect' before they enjoy life, there is no point wishing and waiting because while you're doing that, time is passing.

With both children just about to move, one for the first time, and the other with a four-month-old baby, financial security and health are the main concerns. Both children have been given the basics about both aspects of life, and I feel confident they will both prosper ... despite the Coronavirus .

I would advise my grandchildren to work hard at school and get good qualifications to enable them to get a good job and achieve their dreams. I would advise them to save a little each week for that rainy day. To be as kind to others as they are to themselves and to do the things that make them happy. I hope in the future more cures will be found for diseases such as cancer

Sorry to be a downer but do not think the young have much future simply because the humans in charge do not have the desire to combat the climate crisis.Too many vested interests, too much money to be made in the short term, and the big clincher,it will cost too much to save the planet !

happysouls Thu 18-Feb-21 13:27:42

I have a will although there is unlikely to be anything of value at all. I do worry what kind of world future generations will have and as for hopes for them I find it quite hard to be positive as I myself feel there is no hope. Funny to say after seeing so many positive things here but I honestly think we're passing on a world in a terrible state and I feel sad for them. Maybe I just have to hope they'll be happy, that they might be able to change things for the better and maybe it won't be as bad as I feel haha!

I wish them to successfully complete their educations and to go on to have healthy, happy lives with fulfilling jobs, great relationships and satisfying/rewarding hobbies.

What advice do you give to your grandchildren about how to achieve their hopes and dreams?
Work hard at school, and extra hard in English and maths so you always have those basic skills

How do you hope the world will be for future generations and what steps do you take now to help achieve this?
I am very conscious of the harm we do everyday to our planet and I do my utmost not to contribute to it and to spread the word to friends and family so they can join in too

Have you thought about writing a Will?
Yes I have a will

Would you consider leaving a gift in your Will to Cancer Research UK to ensure your family grow up in a world where more people survive cancer?
No I would rather donate now

We encourage our grandchildren to be kind, polite, respectful and to look after the environment.

Liste Thu 18-Feb-21 14:22:59

Enjoy every moment you get to spend together. Cherish the small things and never bear a grudge.

AR2127 Thu 18-Feb-21 14:37:03

Go into a industry where you will have transferable skills, keep one eye on the next great technologies etc. Invest in your future.

maryandbuzz1 Thu 18-Feb-21 17:33:42

We have written a will and have all our affairs in order.
My advice would be about conservation and respecting the world, people and wildlife within it. Everything and everyone has a place and relies on each other. If the world goes out of kilter it affects everything else. Sustainability has to be the way through, conserving what we have and protecting our planet.

nabob Thu 18-Feb-21 18:06:19

I would say be happy with your choices and never look back.

sscrase Thu 18-Feb-21 18:56:19

Whilst individually curing these terrible diseases is of course fabulous I do wonder what would happen for a society that then grows exponentially. I just hope that my family goes through life without exposure to these conditions and leads a happy and content life.

SheenaBatey123 Thu 18-Feb-21 19:03:34

I believe very much in instilling compassion and kindness to others and treating them as you you would want to be treated yourself. I hope the future generations of my family will carry this forward

hazy1221 Thu 18-Feb-21 20:48:44

Freedom.

freefan Thu 18-Feb-21 23:03:34

I would hope they would be happy to be whoever they choose to be, that they'd be healthy and kind. The world is changing so fast that as long as they could be whoever they choose to be and smile everyday then I would be more than content

Kelgc Fri 19-Feb-21 05:58:06

I'd love for future generations to be
-happier and healthier
- for the world to respect one another regardless gender, religion, race, etc
- dreams to he achievable when you work hard enough

Allegretto Fri 19-Feb-21 09:14:53

Be true to yourself.
Be considerate of others.
Work hard.
Be kind to yourself.

I have a will. I would rather (& do) make donations to cancer charities now, rather than in my will.

DolphinTreeFrog Fri 19-Feb-21 10:02:33

be better than us.
