It’s natural to wonder about what the world might look like in the future, particularly for our loved ones. Sometimes this can be a worrying prospect but it’s comforting to know there are things we can do now to help our family members thrive in the future, whether it’s creating a safe home for them, instilling the life lessons we’ve learnt in our grandchildren, or leaving gifts and donations to charity. With this in mind, Cancer Research UK would like to hear your hopes for the future generations of your family.

Here’s what Cancer Research UK has to say: “A Will is one of the most important documents you’ll ever write. It’s the only way to make sure the people and the causes you care about are looked after, and it’s where you can decide what happens to your money and possessions. Once your family and friends are taken care of, a gift to Cancer Research UK – no matter how big or small – really makes a difference for future generations.

Thanks to our amazing supporters, Gifts in Wills fund over a third of our life-saving work, helping us to make treatments even more effective for future generations, bringing forward the day when nobody fears the disease.”

What advice do you give to your grandchildren about how to achieve their hopes and dreams? How do you hope the world will be for future generations and what steps do you take now to help achieve this? Have you thought about writing a Will? Would you consider leaving a gift in your Will to Cancer Research UK to ensure your family grow up in a world where more people survive cancer?

All who post on this thread will be entered into a prize draw taking place on 22/02, where one lucky Gransnetter will win a £200 voucher for a store of their choice (from a list).

Vouchers of winner's choice will be an e-voucher ordered via the Voucher Express platform. Choice will be dependent on availability at the time. Winners will also have an option to select a 'VEX Gift Certificate" which will give them the option to select a physical voucher or gift card from the full Voucher Express range.

Thanks and good luck with the prize draw!

My advice to my children and grandchildren is to plan your life (what you want) early. I can remember many missed opportunities because I let time slip by. One example is when my children were little I had a lot of time on my hands (when they were in bed) I wish now that I had used that time to study instead of watching rubbish on TV. I would also advise to have a weekly, monthly and yearly budget you may deviate a little but if you have no plan you cannot follow it

I hope my future generation are able to buy suitable housing and earn enough money to support themselves. And that they have happy long healthy lives.

My son had a genetically-linked cancer when he was a child. He survived but is a carrier. Nowaday doctors can use an amniocentesis test to find out if a foetus is affected, but that's less than ideal as then a decision has to be made if the test is positive. I hope that new tests become available to test much earlier in a pregnancy, or even gene therapy to cure the break in the affected chromosome.

To be able to have financial stability

I hope they grow up in a kinder world , that they are happy & healthy and I want them to be confident but also tempered with respect for others .
I hope they still want to learn about the history of their parents and grandparent etc , so that they realize what things were like for them, and why they had the views they had ,and why they took the decisions they did.
I also would like them to, be interested in the history of their country and the farther world for the reasons I have given above. I believe that by understanding this they can go forward with improving their lives and the lives of others around them.
I hope they do well in what they choose to do in life , in a perfect world they would work at something they really enjoyed, it’s said that if you are lucky enough to be able to that you never feel unhappy going to work.

Not having children or grandchildren, future generations are being left to my cousins to organise!
I do my best to limit my impact on the planet, and to vote for politicians who will bring fairness and compassion to the world
