Does anyone agree with me that Brian Moore is a total pain as a rugny commentator? He is so opinionated that the other pundits took the mickey by mocking up a dummy Brian and tried to throw balls into its mouth. He may have toned it down a bit since then. I do hope he isn't on the flight to New Zealand.
I'm so sad about Christchurch having to give up its role as a match venue because the stadium is pretty much a write-off and the infrastructure hasn't recovered from the earthquakes. The Canterbury Crusaders have had to play home matches all over the place.
I may have a few disputes with my NZ based sister who had the nerve to take me to task for supporting England after Scotland had been knocked out last time round. I have lived in England longer than she has live in NZ!

Jacey Wed 14-Sept-11 20:03:07

Well done Scotland ...another win! Surprising to see no tries in a match at this level though.
Watched second half live this morning ...seems the team hosted a fund raiser over the weekend in aid of Christchurch! smile

If you take em to queenstown then ... well bungee jumping is what people do there. I think it might have been invented there...
I think they should restrict their drinking to one or two pints or a couple fo glasses of wine with a meal, max, while they are on tour, representing their country. They should not be allowed to "go out drinking" as in an evening of beer swilling and getting drunk. They are getting paid to keep themselves fit, apart from anything else, not poison themselves.
Poor Japan. My DH just commented "the Maori's showed no mercy. Must have been like being bludgeoned on the head with greenstone"

Annobel Fri 16-Sept-11 13:59:00

It was invented there, as far as I know. I watched them doing it in a gorge near Queenstown and it made me feel ill just standing on the bridge. They were offering jumps free to pensioners. Were we tempted? hmm
I don't think anything untoward happened in the bar. The manager commented that they were well behaved and there was no 'dwarf throwing'. That's OK then.

Jacey Fri 16-Sept-11 19:11:03

Don't these guys realise that they are 'news' ...someone ...somewhere ...is going to earn some money 'selling' where they are ...and of course the media will use every innuendo going to 'create' a story. So naive!!

Jacey Fri 16-Sept-11 19:30:31

Oh ...glad didn't see the 'slaughter' live ...just caught NZ's score. Bet they've not been in the media's eye.

Annobel Sat 17-Sept-11 11:40:25

I had to go out and have a haircut, so missed most of the Ireland-Australia match. Switched on when I got back and saw the last ten minutes. What a great result for Ireland. The grin on O'Driscoll's face was worth a $million!

Jacey Sat 17-Sept-11 11:53:56

Likewise Annobel just got back from taking relatives to Gatwick ...I was actually yelling at the television blush. A fantastic win for the Irish ...seemed to be a very physical ending period!

JessM Sat 17-Sept-11 18:09:28

How about that!

Acheron Sat 17-Sept-11 19:32:00

The Ireland -Australia match was the best I've seen so far. Well done Ireland and well deserved. Brian O'Driscoll is one hot guy.

JessM Sat 17-Sept-11 20:31:24

He slept on my sister's sofa once! My niece had spurned his advances. Imagine !!!!

Annobel Sat 17-Sept-11 20:34:00

What a claim to fame, Jess!
I only saw the highlights Acheron, but it looked brilliant, though I thought the Wales-South Africa match was excellent as well.

JessM Sat 17-Sept-11 20:38:14

And Wales playing again tomorrow... but some of those Samoans look terrifying!

Annobel Sun 18-Sept-11 10:58:41

How good it was to see the England backs being allowed to cut loose and run the ball with great effect against the hefty Georgians. That's more like it! But now I fear for Scotland! hmm

Jacey Sun 18-Sept-11 12:07:03

Well done Wales ...you worked hard for that smile
England ...score looks good on paper ...BUT ...what would have happened if Georgia had made all their penalties? ...even the manager called it a 'sloppy' performance! ...as for getting a 'sin-bin'???

They were saying that due to Ireland's win over Australia ...on paper ...looks as if Ireland, Wales , England and possibly Scotland will all get through to quarter finals hmm ...it only wants another 'upset' score in this round to scupper that pipe dream!

Annobel Sun 18-Sept-11 12:30:18

Very true, Jacey. It could be the best hope for Scotland if they can force England into conceding penalties and Parks or Paterson has his kicking boots on. I would like to see the look on Andy Robinson's face if Scotland can beat the side he was sacked from.

JessM Sun 18-Sept-11 20:30:20

oh lord that Welsh win was a bit of a cliff hanger....

susiecb Mon 19-Sept-11 09:37:32

I'm only just getting into this having been married to an ex player for 33 years! I saw some of yesterdays match and my interest was caught by a lovely hairy bearded player for Georgia who came on some time through the match Yum Yum. Am going to my first match at Leicester Tigers on Saturday hope I like it the tickets were extortionant.

A lovely local French resturant ( an old pub thats what should happen to all old pubs) is having breakfast and rugby but cant persaude my husabnd to go - the chef is French and quite lovely (so is his wife). If you are in this area its La Table D'yvres Thorpe Satchville

Annobel Mon 19-Sept-11 10:15:02

One of the Canadians has a very spectacular beard too. Do you have a 'thing' about beards, susie?

mrshat Mon 19-Sept-11 17:48:08

The Irish/Oz match was one of the best I've seen for ages. Lovely rugby and an exciting game and of course the final score was so sweet! grin

susiecb Wed 21-Sept-11 08:09:33

ooo yes love a beard and a nice hairy man all over plse? I have a lovely hairy one here - nice hairy back. I heard a few yelps then Gransnetterssmile

Annobel Wed 21-Sept-11 09:00:38

On of my DSs is such, though no beard at present. Don't know where he gets his hairy genes!

grannyactivist Wed 21-Sept-11 09:37:47

The yelp was mine! Eugh to hairy men, although I do approve of my husband's amazing handlebar moustache. I'll see if I can put a photo up.

Jacey Fri 23-Sept-11 12:16:46

It seems that quite a few of the national teams are not professional full-time players.

Namibia has no sponsorship ...so many of their players have had to take unpaid leave of absence from their work. Also the USA team have half of their team in full time employment...seems they are using Olympic funding to development future players?? Russia was thrilled to score their first ever try in the World Cup!

Then you think about England's squad out on the razzle and it makes you wonder about priorities and the 'honour' of playing for your country?? hmm

And the Aussies didn't stop trying to score tries even though they'd got the maximum 5 points. A real pity about that possible severe injury right at the end of the game.

Oh well ...let's see what the weekend brings.

Jacey Sat 24-Sept-11 17:47:09

"Rampant England Rout Romania" ...BBC web headlines ... who thinks up this rubbish. Yes a good win ...but still giving away too many penalties.

Good result, as well, for all of us 'All Black' fans.

Got me thinking about National Anthems again ...the bright, cheerful ones that everyone is keen to sing along with ...and the dirges, that others keep their heads down during.

biggran Sat 24-Sept-11 17:58:49

We are all big rugby fans in this house - the first thing my DH bought his adored first GD was our local premiership team's away shirt (baby sized home shirts are out of stock!), but my other daughter managed to fix her wedding date for 8th Oct - she reckons she can watch the rugby whilst getting ready!! And my DH and I will be in Katmandu for the final!!
