Does anyone agree with me that Brian Moore is a total pain as a rugny commentator? He is so opinionated that the other pundits took the mickey by mocking up a dummy Brian and tried to throw balls into its mouth. He may have toned it down a bit since then. I do hope he isn't on the flight to New Zealand.
I'm so sad about Christchurch having to give up its role as a match venue because the stadium is pretty much a write-off and the infrastructure hasn't recovered from the earthquakes. The Canterbury Crusaders have had to play home matches all over the place.
I may have a few disputes with my NZ based sister who had the nerve to take me to task for supporting England after Scotland had been knocked out last time round. I have lived in England longer than she has live in NZ!

England's defeat of Romania was pretty much a training run. I enjoyed the All Blacks/France match though I had to go out for a flu jab in the middle - thank goodness for ITV+1! But France were inconsistent and I don't think they had their best men on as a starting XV. But what's new?

Jacey Sat 24-Sept-11 19:31:02

Agree Annobel there was a bit more 'spirit' with the NZ game.

Annobel Sun 25-Sept-11 13:31:06

I nearly wept when Argentina went over for that try, just after Scotland had gone ahead; and when Dan Parks missed the drop goal that looked like a certainty - well... sad
Now we have to beat England hmm.

lucid Sun 25-Sept-11 13:38:03

I almost felt sorry for Scotland, they did deserve to win....All down to next week now and Scotland will have to attempt to beat us! wink

Married to an unhappy Scot.....

Annobel Fri 30-Sept-11 09:58:36

As Bruce Forsyth puts it, 'the moment of truth' is tomorrow. hmm - since there isn't an emoticon for trepidation.

Jacey Fri 30-Sept-11 10:04:02

yes Annobel an all or nothing game tomorrow ...not sure I shall be able to watch it!!
And one needs a stats degree to comprehend the permutations of the possible results as to what then happens to the teams confused

Annobel Sat 01-Oct-11 10:24:39

DS2 has just rung up to gloat. Though part Scots, he considers himself English - though his partner is Irish, so split loyalties in that household. So now I have to switch my support to England. Poor old Scots - if only they had managed to hold off Argentina...sad

lucid Sat 01-Oct-11 10:57:58

Not a pretty game, wasn't sure my nerves would hold out, BUT we wongrin gringrin France next....come on England.

lucid Sat 01-Oct-11 10:58:42

Sorry Annobel.....Scotland did play well....

susiecb Sat 01-Oct-11 11:04:12

That was close DH has gone for a walk to calm down! well done England! in the end!

em Sat 01-Oct-11 11:26:03

Well Annobel, I was thinking of you for the glorious minute when things looked good, but no-one could be ungracious about that wonderful kick of Wlikinson's, could they? That's what did it!

Jacey Sat 01-Oct-11 12:55:31

Agree lucid not a pretty game at all ...decided I couldn't watch 2nd half ...too stressful. Sorry all scottish Gransnetters ...they did everything but score a try!
I can't honestly, even say, that the best team on the day won hmm ...it's about time England upped their game ...this is the World Cup for heaven's sake!!

Annobel Sat 01-Oct-11 13:04:51

I think World Cup history tells us that England almost always give their supporters the heebie-jeebies in the early stages and get into their stride in the knock-out rounds. Let's hope that history repeats itself. See - that's me being magnanimous in defeat...grin

Annobel Sun 02-Oct-11 15:25:03

Good work by Wales and Ireland. Hope they succeed in the knock-out rounds. I would just love to see Brian O'Driscoll carrying off the World Cup. Woops! Did I say I would be supporting England?

MaggieP Sun 02-Oct-11 17:41:16

Am I alone in being fed up with the media going on and on about Mike Tindall, the second bar he was spied in with a woman etc etc.
Whether it's right or wrong, we are being spun a tale which is not rugby and let's get over it and try and win the World Cup.......yours ever hopefully!hmm

helshea Sun 02-Oct-11 17:49:36

unfortunately Maggie there isn't a chance in h**l of that happening... pity though!

pompa Sun 02-Oct-11 17:58:12

You are so right, I do wish our media would get behind our sporting teams in a positive way, rather than trying to run them down.

helshea Sun 02-Oct-11 23:11:02

What a brilliant game by Ireland today, much more exciting than watching football on match of the day, the referees decisions were ridiculous, and the players attitudes matched... Give me a real man anytime!

mrshat Mon 03-Oct-11 17:47:25

Lovely rugby from Ireland on Sunday and a terrific result! Annobel - the thought of Brian O'Driscoll carrying off the World Cup would make my day hmm but I guess stranger things have happened? wink Lets get next week against Wales over first. As for all the 'hype' about Mike Tindall and others misbehaving - what a lot of emotional damage the media can cause! Lets just hear about the Rugby and support the teams.smile

Annobel Mon 03-Oct-11 18:26:12

Up with the Celts!

MaggieP Sat 08-Oct-11 10:35:28

Oh dear England were so disappointing today, France deserved their win, they looked really good on the pitch.
Even husband screaming at the screen and the dog getting excited didn't help us!

glammanana Sat 08-Oct-11 10:42:34

Wake me up when it's finished.grin

pompa Sat 08-Oct-11 10:46:16

Now I can enjoy the games without getting stressed out.

lucid Sat 08-Oct-11 11:35:13

Watched a fantastic game of rugby....and then England played! Well I say played ...hmm
Well done Wales and Ireland a thoroughly enjoyable game. I would have been embarrassed had England gone through as they were a total shambles.
