Gosh Jangly, I have just caught up with this thread. Have not been on Gransnet much this week What have you done to upset people? I think David Walliams is a hero,, and yes he will get publicity for himself, but it is in a good cause. I would certainly not put my head under water in the Thames. As I write this, he is just coming to the end.Don't leave Gransnet Jangly we need all sorts on here, there is room for everyone, and you add a bit of colour . wine grin

WELL DONE DAVID.

YOU ARE A HERO.

GoldenGran Mon 12-Sept-11 18:49:02

Good for him wine

GoldenGran Mon 12-Sept-11 18:53:35

Were you there at the finish Jangly? smile

jangly Mon 12-Sept-11 18:56:12

'fraid not Goldengran. DD's back at work today and she has been my partner in Walliams watching.

Seen (and cheered) him at five points though. smile

Blimey! Just looked up at the tele and saw him finish his swim - well done him. I swam twenty lengths in a pristine pool last week and was on my knees after!

One million, 194 thousand and 258 pounds raised. so far.

And some of that goes to helping dementia sufferers. (That'll be mostly OLD people)

glassortwo Mon 12-Sept-11 20:25:09

That is a fantastic amount to raise and the figure will go up when all donations are collected.

jangly Mon 12-Sept-11 20:41:06

Yes. You're right Glass. smile

Well done to David Walliams, a great achievement!!!!! Hope he is feeling OK now, I hope all the Thames water is out of his system!!!! AND....Didn't he look great in his Speedos at the start of the race? before he changed into his wetsuit!!!!wink

Not keen on the old budgie smugglers myself wink but he did look remarkably well at the end. The man's a hero - I'm so pleased that the country got behind him all the way.

Programme on BBC1 tonight 9-10.

documentary looks back to last September, when David Walliams swam the length of the River Thames. Having previously completed swims across the English Channel and the Strait of Gibraltar, the comedian's latest feat proved to be his greatest test of endurance yet, during which he battled hypothermia, caught a bacterial infection and even saved a dog from drowning. The film follows his challenge, from entering the water at Teddington Lock to reaching the steps of London's South Bank, eight days and 111,352 strokes later, for an emotional reunion with wife Lara Stone. David Walliams and his swim

I'm sure you wouldn't want to miss it.

Ariadne Thu 08-Mar-12 11:25:05

I know what he's been doing, and applaud it, but have to confess that I wasn't too sure who he was, and am not much wiser now that I've googled it.

wotsamashedupjingl Thu 08-Mar-12 11:27:16

Ariadne get with the programme? wink

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 11:38:30

I didn't know either, ariadne. Still not much wiser. I googled him too a while ago but I've forgotten what I found out. Didn't seem that important in the grand scheme of things.

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 11:41:06

Though I'd better qualify that with "good for him". I do mean it. Whatever makes you tick. But there is sometimes apparently a little "looking down on" people who don't 'publish' their support of charity fundraising which I find troubling.

absentgrana Thu 08-Mar-12 11:43:31

I am not going to comment and risk reoffending someone who might then decide to resign from Gransnet and who would have to find yet another name on rejoining.

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 11:47:01

wink

Carol Thu 08-Mar-12 12:15:12

Right children - why don't we all play a nice game and be friends again? Now, what would you like to play? Rounders? Statues!!! Statues it is then. Okay, children, wait for the music, and off we go......

(Goes back to kitchen to peel veg and hopes they are all playing nicely.....) wink

bagitha Thu 08-Mar-12 12:32:59

We are playing nicely, carol! Nothing to worry about! One is (or is it two or three are?) just expressing opinions. That's what Gn is for, isn't it?
