He didnt sound to good on the radio today had a iffy tummy said if it didnt improve he would have a day out of the water. Are going to see him pass jangly ?

If I can work out when he's he's likely to come past, yes. But I aint standing by that river all day. Why couldn't he have done it in the summer. I could have taken a chair then. hmm (I know its for Comedy Relief which must be coming up soon)

I would not want to swim in the Thames!

I saw them take a body out when I was a little girl. They put it in a black bag.

Someone drowned a couple of years back jumping from a riverside pub window and trying to swim across. (for a bet)

Before that a young man died trying to get a football back. I happened to pass the police van parked on the bridge and the sight of the young woman's face (his girl friend) as she waited for the divers to come up, stays with me.

I have a love/hate relationship with the Thames.

Think it is next year but they are recording it now, should have picked when the weather was warmer, saying that have we had any summer

jangly Thu 08-Sept-11 09:52:41

The Swan Upping day was georgeous. My son took me to Culham Lock to see it. One of my best summer memories. smile

You have to respect water for what it is lovely to sit by and have a walk by but it can a dangerous beast and snatch a life away in a flash.

goldengirl Thu 08-Sept-11 17:27:11

Surely he could have found other healthier ways to support Comic Relief hmm

JessM Thu 08-Sept-11 18:09:39

Worrying on two counts - the Thames is a big dangerous, fast moving, body of water and I hope others are not encouraged to jump in and copy him.
Also, it will be full of bacteria from all kinds of sources. You can catch guardia or cryptosporidium even from clean looking mountain streams - let alone a river that has sewage storm overflows pouring into it when it rains, dead rats etc.
Water companies spend a fortune making this water safe to drink...
Not very comic really!

greenmossgiel Thu 08-Sept-11 19:04:21

Just seen him on the news - he looks ok, but is still suffering from diahorrea, apparently.....in that wet-suit? Oh dear.....

JessM Thu 08-Sept-11 20:09:22

further polluting the Thames...?

jangly Thu 08-Sept-11 21:00:00

He looked fine when he got out of the water and waved to the people lining the lock. He's doing a grand job, raising loads of money for a good cause.

There is no fault to find.

jangly Thu 08-Sept-11 21:00:24

But I'm sure you'll all have a damn good try.

greenmossgiel Thu 08-Sept-11 21:23:53

No we won't, jangly - I'm just concerned about his upset tummy etc, in his wetsuit. hmm

This is a video of his day yesterday.

I think he's a hero.

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 10:05:44

Scroll down a bit for the video.

You can click on the map to see where he is today. There might be some Henley Gransnetters interested.

JessM Fri 09-Sept-11 10:44:11

I'm concerned about other people copying him and getting drowned or ending up in hospital. Without raising any money for charity. They are not very likely to start swimming the channel but they might think it is fine to leap into the Thames or other big dangerous river. Have you seen the speed at which a river moves when the tide is going out?
I think the word hero is over used, Jangly. As you yourself implied on another thread, only yesterday.

Annobel Fri 09-Sept-11 11:19:13

Why do we have two threads about this subject? Could they be put together? Geraldine/Josi/Cari?

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 11:27:38

Sorry Annobel. One of my threads was more of a conversation with Glassortwo. blush

Ignore one of them.

or choose. smile

or read both. smile

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 11:28:05

He needs as much publicity as possible! smile

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 11:35:46

jess - I do NOT call soldiers who beat up innocent civillians heroes. David Walliams at this time I DO!

They are putting out plenty of warnings along the lines of "do not copy this this yourself". Anyone with half a brain would realise he has the appropriate backup.

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 11:36:45

And now the sun has come out and I am getting off this website! smile

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 15:55:38

BUMP

jangly Fri 09-Sept-11 16:10:29

They said on Twitter he is doing an uphill bit of river now.

Can't be easy.

JessM Fri 09-Sept-11 16:53:13

that well known uphill flowing water must be tricky.
That is not what i said jangly.
