Every 2 years I deck the car with England flags for either the World Cup or Euros. This year, I have England wing mirror covers too. The flags are not usually on for long, but I never give up hope of a 1966 repeat performance.

First England match just about to kick off, but it's being Sky-plussed to watch later as grandsons are here for tea.

So I'll now have to steeer clear of GN, Twitter, Facebook, News etc smile

Come on England!!

Always look on the bright side crimson grin

I just don't think that we have players of the calibre of Owen, Beckham and Shearer these days. Gerrard hardly got a mention tonight. Beckham in particular used to work so hard to create goals for other people, as well as scoring himself. Oh well; at least we won't have the humiliation of losing to the Germans again smile.

"It's only a game".....Well done to you ladies who support the lads...a big drink to you all....Cheers smile

Usual result. Perhaps life can get back to normal?

crimson Sun 24-Jun-12 22:46:59

I couldn't watch the end. Deja vu......sad

Notsogrand Sun 24-Jun-12 22:42:40

Oh well. Flags down and ready for washing. hmm

Notsogrand Sun 24-Jun-12 19:43:11

COME ON ENGLAND!!!!!

Jacey Sun 24-Jun-12 19:36:32

I shall be 'virtually' cheering for them ...while not actually watching the game!! confused

From going as 'no-hopers' {according to the media} ...the same people are now talking about who they'll be playing in the final! {get a grip} ...and no doubt the same people will be moaning about our poor performance/mistakes/what if scenarios/told you so hmm

crimson Sun 24-Jun-12 19:33:29

I'm a tad optimistic tonight. This is a concern as I'm the biggest pessimist ever. Our new manager seems pretty good; my ignorance of football means that I don't know much about him. I think I'm impressed that he can speak Italian, which doesn't actually mean that he can guide the England Football team to victory. But at least he can swear at the Italian team in their own language if they beat us, which can only be good, can't it confused? Err, we are playing Italy aren't we blush.....

Pete Sun 24-Jun-12 18:44:35

COME ON ENGLAND grin

It's still a beautiful game crimson the problem is the people who run OUR game and OUR clubs...All they see is money, money, money...Can't really blame the players, if they are offered silly money they will take it, Cloughie would grin

Notsogrand Wed 20-Jun-12 17:11:36

Gerrard seems to be doing a good job as captain crimson, and nice with it too. smile

Pete Wed 20-Jun-12 15:46:59

Who cares indeed notso !! It reads 1-0 that will do for me lol. Now roll on Sunday grin

crimson Wed 20-Jun-12 13:06:07

To me football is 'the beautiful game', but it's lost it's beauty. Cloughie will be turning in his grave. Very impressed with Gerrard these days, though.

Notsogrand Wed 20-Jun-12 11:59:51

Happy Days indeed Pete! smile

Lots of chit and chat about the match in the shops/ hairdressers etc. I agree that we wouldn't have won prizes for style or artistic interpretation grin, but who cares? We won!

PRINTMISS Wed 20-Jun-12 07:36:16

I did not watch (surprise!), but my husband agrees with you crimson -( I do get a blow by blow description after the match). I thought they were paid to win.

Pete Wed 20-Jun-12 01:15:36

Happy Days... smile

I think Portugal or Germany will eat us alive if we get that far. Thought we were awful.

glassortwo Tue 19-Jun-12 21:57:20

Get in!!!!!!! grin

Anagram Tue 19-Jun-12 21:48:41

Ooh! Did we win?

Notsogrand Tue 19-Jun-12 21:39:21

Better second half! grin

Notsogrand Tue 19-Jun-12 20:34:16

Disappointing first half.

PRINTMISS Tue 19-Jun-12 20:18:43

Still cannot understand the excitement about it all. it is after all only a game, glamourised by the media. Grown men dancing around like puppets if they win, crying if they do not, unable to accept the authority of the referee, and win or lose, still getting paid far too much.

jeni Tue 19-Jun-12 18:49:31

Does size matter?confused

soop Tue 19-Jun-12 18:46:16

And I prefer bright yellow, round, small balls. Wimbledon ahoy! Yay! grin Rafa swoon. Roger double swoon. As of Monday, I may be conspicuous by my absence. However, as I'm a GN addict, I shall still need to keep tabs on you lot...especially that naughty nellie grin
