Wimbledon [sunshine]

Murray is sometimes a bit of a trial to watch as he is so tense and sullen. Baghdatis is a breath of fresh air and they could not be less alike.

I'm beginning to enjoy this Murray/Baghdatis match. Baghdatis is a cheeky chappy who is putting some spark into it. Good fun!

She has Sjogren's syndrome which sounds rather nasty - another of these auto-immune conditions. I think she's very brave to go on playing in the circumstances.

Fabulous tennis. Bit concerned to see Venus looking a bit thin and frail amongst the spectators. I believe she has been quite ill but she says she is fine?

What fantastic tennis again! I don't usually watch the women as I can't stand the grunting, but Serena and Jie have just been amazing.

Yes, can't abide Boris Becker and Virginia Wade - my favourites are John McEnroe and Andrew Castle. It's Andy Murray this afternoon - I am going NOWHERE!!

That was a bit perplexing; was it within the rules? Really warmed to Federer last night. Never want to go back to the Sampras ace after ace years; good as he was I virtually stopped watching tennis at the time. I rather like Boris [and it goes without saying McEnroe is sublime in his commentating role]. Perhaps tennis, like other sports, looks after it's own.

I did find myself being rather taken with Julien Benneteau, .... but not with the massaging antics.

I agree - ditch Boris and please lose Virginia Wade. She has the most irritating, whiny voice and doesn't say anything very important.

specki the commentators have referred in the past lots of times to the gentleman with the hat, and if I could remember, I'd tell you what they said about him

As for Boris, well I can hardly understand a word he says!

Two questions:
1. Who is the elderly distinguished looking gentleman who sits in the rear corner of the players' supporters box on Centre Court? I first noticed him when I went to Queens way back in 1990. And why do none of the commentators ever refer to him?
2. Has anyone ever heard Boris Becker say one thing that we didn't already know? Why do the Beeb wheel him out every year?

Another stressful evening - this time I thought we were going to lose Mr Spiffing Federer! Phew! What a close one but he came good in the end despite the distraction of that (hmm) massage

I was glued to my chair - had to force myself to go to the loo!

He really didn't seem ok at the beginning though. Phew, I'm worn out!

I thought it was going to happen all over again today but Djokovic seems to be rallying!

Have to hand it to Nadal - he handled his interviews well. He refused to discuss why he had a bit of a paddy as he said people might think he was making excuses - or maybe the poor chap just felt embarrassed.

Good match on court now - No 1 Djokovic has dropped his first set - against a Czech!

I wonder why the powers that be at Wimbledon have to put the roof on in order to also have the floodlights. Other venues have lights and I've always thought it would be sensible to have them on the show courts anyway so that matches needn't be stopped for bad light.

I thought it was an amazing match, I was glued to it. DH watched the football and then joined me. We both thought Rosol was good, he stayed calm, played brilliant tennis and didn't let Nadal's tantrum put him off. In the break while they closed the roof the commentators were saying how well Nadal would cope with what was just like a rain break and how much harder it would be for Rosol but I think it was the opposite. As it progressed they didn't seem to know what to say as they knew nothing about him. I bet they have had the researchers working flat out today to find out more.

Does anyone know when he plays again? I will be watching closely.

How incredible that his shots were 99 miles an hour (well, one of them), lots of them in the 90's and perfectly placed!

crimson absolutely not, he just played the most amazing tennis, at the end they both looked completely stunned. I wonder what it must be like to be Rosolwaking up this morning,knowing her can play extraordinary tennis but might never play like that again. Yesterday he had nothing to lose now that has all changed.

I do not think that Rosol intimidated Nadal in any way except the extraordinary quality of his tennis. Nadal had a grumble about Rosol at one point, but I could not see anything wrong that he had done at all - and neither could the commentators. Nadal was most ungracious in defeat.

Who knows what Rosol will do next? - it is strange to call his play a "freak" as it was very consistent throughout and if he is capable of doing this, he can do it again, if he does not get overawed by the pressure of being in the next round. But we have seen this situation before where an outsider knocks out a top player and then goes on to play a hopeless match in the next round.

Nadal should put his feet up a bit - his rituals are getting out of hand, poor chap.
