Jessm , you hit the nail on the head with your first post. It didn't matter to the rest of the world who won so long as it wasn't us. I do wish they'd stop saying so and so will win gold . it must be such a lot of unnecesary pressure. Look at Rebecca Adlington, she tried hard to circumvent the hype by saying she was the ''new kid on the block'' last time and there would probably be another one this time. As there was.

I think it is because they hydrate as much as poss first thing. Then hanging around in The Mall for ages waiting to start but "marshalled" so they can't pop to the loo. Later on in the race they become dehydrated - Wiggins really struggled to give a urine sample at the end of each day in the Tour. Everyone standing round waiting to interview him... blush

I am surprised they needed to urinate, given the amount of fluid they must lose through sweating. I was told that top class tennis players rarely needed 'comfort' breaks for that reason.

men weeing the minute they got outside central london was quite a memorable sight wasnt it.
GB team didn't win because the whole of the rest of the world were trying to stop them winning (rather than trying to win themselves as it were)
Normally in a race like this teams would take a turn at doing the hard work in front. They didn't. And there weren't enough brits to out there to carry it alone.
Problem is that if you are the one in front of a group, you are working much harder than those tucked into someone else's slipstream. Funny old event.
And well done the women's medal!

Well done the girls tho' - their tactics worked wonderfully... and they weren't 'talked up' as much as the chaps!

No, no, too easy - you've got to have strategy.........(apparently)

In a nutshell . flag

JO4 Sat 28-Jul-12 17:38:29

Why can't they just put their heads down and pedal!! hmm

gracesmum Sat 28-Jul-12 17:09:08

sad I wonder if the Team GB "game plan" was perhaps too inflexible- the other teams certainly didn't seem to be sticking to the way we had planned it would go. sad
