I really hope that the results will inspire more young women and girls to take part in sport. And help the economy in East London.
However am steaming at Cameron saying he is going to put money into encouraging young people to participate. A perfectly good system has just been dismantled due to funding withdrawal. PE specialists shared between groups of primaries. Posts have been made redundant.
Perfect time to re-invent the wheel!

What about putting competition back at Primary School level? Both children and parents dislike "non-competetive sports days" I often seen children bored with being part of false "teams for the day" running races on the side instead of bouncing a ball as many times as the can in a minute or throwing balls at buckets? Anyone else experienced these. Children who've been brought up with just taking part in these will be bemused by the Gold Silver & Bronze winning concepts.

That's the one nanaej , late lamented SSP. Redundancies across the land. Now people only want to talk about one off inspiring events.
Where did that non-competitive sports fashion come from? It was not all primaries was it?
It is silly isn't it, this non competitive sports thing. Sports are intrinsically competitive. If if you want to get children being active, then why exclude so many ways of doing so.

Mind you children do vary neither of my children were very competitive and one of my grandsons is a really good swimmer but not got that killer instinct whereas my youngest grandson well......he will do anything to win a race, and usually does.

I hope my two youngest will be inspired by their visit to the Olympic hockey on Thursday. The four-year-old has already done a two mile fun run non-stop, so is certainly determined. Older brother (7 this week) did it too but jogged it, chatting to a mate. Other two GC enjoy swimming and one of them does judo but aren't too worried about winning or losing - yet!
