I'm going to the dogs....

My OH loves the dogs we used to go till they shut Walthamstow , so have a great time, I used to find my feet always got cold from standing on the concrete floors so wore boots and thick socks..

I used to go (occasionally) to MK stadium before they shut that and would bet on dogs that 1) looked like ours 2) belonged to/were trained by people we knew or 3) liked the name. Infallible! Lost every time!! Once we took Jock (our first retired racing greyhound) to a charity evening where they chose a retired dog or local winner to lead in each procession. When he heard the fanfare and the sound of the hare runnning he stood up taller, pricked up his ears and shed at least 5 years!! It was LOVELY!!!

I think you're supposed look out for the one that does a poo before the race . Have had a quick look at the card and written the RPR's down. See that there are a few sired by the great Westmead Hawk, who I was going to see when he was racing, but he got injured before the race. Hope I don't end up bringing a dog home.

Is it meat pie and mushy peas these days? I thought it was at least prawn cocktail, followed by steak, pommes frites and a glass of red . Bets collected at the table, minimum stakes advised! Sounds like a good night.

No winners but the pie and mushy peas were great . A bit of a shock to some in the group to find we were in the spit'n'sawdust bit and not the restaurant, but I felt at home there. Low life, me .

Gracesmum As it happens , I did run on Saturday - but 13.4 miles in about two and a half hours at 5.5 mph. I was training for a Half Marathon at the O2 on Sunday. I did watch Frankel's race too - he was a little bit quicker but has never been tried over my distance! Quite an emotional experience watching him - and his trainer.

I didn't know racing featured here when I joined. Otherwise, I might have come up with another alias. Fangio would have been just as inappropriate - but less current.

You wait till Cheltenham, Frankel ....by the way, do you listen to the Melbourne Cup? I stay up half the night listening to it. Would love to go one day.

BTW did anybody see the picture in today's Telegraph of Shetland Pony racing? They described it as "fast and furry"

crimson ha ha one of mine can poo for Ireland (I call him 3 bags full)and although registered to race never made the tracks.

A patient of my husband wanted to give us a racing greyhound for a wedding present as we used to go to the dogs regularly. We politely declined the offer having lost too much money already!
