Are you planning to watch these? And what do you think of the amount of money that has been spent? About $50 billion apparently. Compared to London 2012 was a fraction of that (about $15 billion I think - in that region anyway) Putin obviously wants to impress the world. And much controversy around Russia's attitudes to gays, rumbling around the mountains.

My nephew is a coach for an event in the Paralympics , he spent two months in Russia and two months in China, among the athletes politics was never discussed and nothing at the Olympics or Paralympics last year

Just watching the slopestyle snowboarding. How amazing to see a British woman winning a bronze. Good for her! It seems that our snowboarders started their careers on dry slopes. GS1 goes to a ski club on Friday evenings - watch this space! grin

Love the snowboarding! Well done Jenny Jones, who at 33 has won a medal. What a run. Bang goes the housework again.

Enjoying it but some of the commentators are 'doing my head in'. Even DD3 who is into all that is finding them a bit OTT.
Well done Jenny. Can't believe that she is the first Brit to get a Winter Olympics medal??

Great to see Jenny win a bronze. Fantastic stuff! I just wish that loud-mouthed buffoon male commentator would put his foot in it!

It is amazing to see these women flinging themselves off mountains with such skill and physical courage. But the commentators need to chill and stop screaming.

Great to see the women winning a bronze in the curling - what a tactical game it is. I've been sitting here in my nightie since 8.30 blush. And tomorrow the men will get a medal too - hopefully gold.

The figure skating yesterday was fantastic. Some very young female skaters floating across the ice like butterflies and doing exquisite jumps.

soop Thu 20-Feb-14 12:37:04

anno the final game was really exciting. I was shouting for Eve to get that stone in the eye...and so she did. Tears of joy! grin

when I was bowled over by the performance of the skater from Korea. She was exceptional. I would love to have been her for just five minutes of her short programme. What must it feel like to float across the ice like a butterfly ...so well put.

POGS Thu 20-Feb-14 17:07:10

I'm enjoying it. Just saying.

soop Thu 20-Feb-14 17:22:17

POGS Me too. About to return to the final long programme for ladies.

POGS Thu 20-Feb-14 18:02:15

Soop.
I even enjoyed the Snow Boarding. It was brilliant.

I really appreciated the skill they all displayed and I think it is quite right to update the categories of events to grow with the younger generation, hopefully to keep the games alive and kicking.

Curling.....who knew it is soo fabulous! I've enjoyed all the events. The ski cross is bonkers and great fun to watch. The half pipe is a joy. The ice dancing is beautiful. Forget the politics its about those supreme athletes. Fantastic. Don't forget to watch the mens curling 1pm....Enjoy. grin

soop Fri 21-Feb-14 13:03:45

laidback Ouch! I thought the event started at 1.30. Must dash. Am hooked. Great game. grin

annodomini Fri 21-Feb-14 13:23:43

Don't panic, soop, it is at 1.30 and they're going over to it right now on BBC2. I agree, laidback. It gives me great pleasure to see supreme athletes accomplishing feats I couldn't even dream of. My son and family are off skiing in Italy. I asked if the kids were getting big ideas about fancy ski and snowboard exploits. 'No,' he said, 'but I am.' He loves snowboarding but for goodness' sake, he's almost 43!

GOOD LUCK to the men's curling team. DH is already in position with the remote clamped to the side of the chair grin

soop Fri 21-Feb-14 16:12:19

anno and merlotfran hmmsad Ah well...our team still won the silver medal. Very proud of them. The Canadians appeared to be "too big for their boots..."
As for the male commentator...did anyone find him a tad tiresome?

soop Fri 21-Feb-14 16:13:07

merlotgran apologies for misspelling your name. smile

whenim64 Fri 21-Feb-14 16:17:33

I enjoyed that match. Silver is fantastic. The Canadians were so good, and boy don't they know it! grin

soop Fri 21-Feb-14 16:19:59

when I agree. The Canadians needed larger T shirts too! wink

POGS Fri 21-Feb-14 17:00:39

Well I think Silver is brilliant and I hope they all enjoy their triumph.

Soop. I couldn't help but notice the muscles too. I thought I was a bit too old for all that. grin'

Giving hubby a broom for his birthday. wink Sadly I don't think it will have the same effect.

soop Fri 21-Feb-14 17:04:02

POGS You tyke! grin wink

merlotgran Fri 21-Feb-14 17:05:52
