What has annoyed a lot of people is watching them play so badly and then, in the 'commercial break' seeing them advertising stuff and knowing they've been paid a fortune for it . Talk about adding insult to injury.

It's coming to something when we consider a 29-year-old to be 'no longer a young man'. I believe Ryan Giggs would have something to say about that! And, as it happened, Wayne was the one who scored the other night. Not that I have anything to say about modern commercialised football, Printmiss. I'm amazed at the number of players for Latin American and African countries who are referred to as playing for English and Scottish clubs.

Well, I know I am an old misery where football is concerned. Not that I dislike the sport, when it is played as a sport, and not just for the money involved. Money has ruined professional football - clubs, (some of which seem to be on the verge of bankruptcy) pay enormous sums of money for foreign players, all of whom are doubtless great players, but none of whom can play for England in the World Cup, this means that our own young up-and-coming players get no chance at all to play at that level. Wayne Rooney is no longer a young man, and we need some young men who can kick the ball into the net. Yes, I do know a little bit about the game, lived with it all my life, and have seen it deteriorate into the shambles it appears to be at the moment. Sorry, Sunday morning, should be happy, not ranting, but that's it folks.

Two things have made me chuckle,

Going into Jewsons yesterday to pick up some carpentry stuff for DH and watching them shove their custom painted builder's barrows at the back of the displays. I was tempted to make them a half price offer as I think carting chicken shit manure around in a jaunty red and white barrow would be fun.

DD and SiL were at the IOW festival last weekend. They witnessed a couple having a HUGE row because she wanted to watch the Red Hot Chilli Peppers (it was a rock festival after all) and he wanted to watch England lose on the enormous screen that had been set up nearby. He became abusive, stormed off and left her so she tagged along with DD and had a great time. They then saw her safely back to her bus (they were staying in a nearby hotel) where she remembered that she had her husband's bus ticket AND money AND credit card in her handbag.

I do hope he enjoyed the walk!

Well I said right at the beginning that England would be out early and everybody and everything except the players and managers would be blamed. Just waiting for the blame game to start. Wish I had placed a bet on this outcome

There is one more match to play before the boys come home. Roy should allow some of the youngsters to play and give them a taste of a large audience. It may help some of the pre match nerves, especially when they are not playing as if their lives depended upon it. They can enjoy themselves but show us and Roy their capabilities for the future.

We are still having the world cup party on Tuesday, with Costa Rican food, whatever that is! I shall wear my charity shop England shirt and then put it away until the Euros in two year's time. Perhaps I won't wear the red and white deeley boppers, though, as the gang will to a certain extent, be in mourning. Well done to Roy anyway. Silk purses and sow's ears.

I haven't watched a game yet (I had recorded them as the talking heads irritate me) and got caught out each time by the morning news announcing their failure to win (what happened to 'if you don't want to know the score, look away now or, more appropriately, put your fingers in your ears?) and there's not much point watching if you know the outcome.

What a non-event

I remember watching the World Cup at a cafe in Spain one year (England v Spain) and we got hammered! The Spaniards, after cheering their victory, actually came and said sorry to us which I thought was really nice of them.

I love a good penalty shoot-out!

But don't you remember that awful disappointment last time, when they almost won? The whole country was on its knees. Don't think I could have taken that again, or one of those awful penalty shoot outs. #silverlining

Yep that's it. No flags, no songs no excitement. I'm a bit disappointed. I rather like all the jollity and the build up. It reminds me of my own sons excitement when they were little.....hurmp

Paid all that stupid money every week to play football and they can't even get a ball to go into a net - disgraceful.Our Sunday league of 11yr olds would have done better and thats just the girls
