Brilliant gold medal last night by Jo Pavey. She is nearly 41 and had a baby less than a year ago. She's been working away at her athletics since her teens and for the first time won a Gold last night, in the 10,000 metres. Oldest European champion ever. Everyone in athletics delighted for her.

What a fantastic European Championships - 12 golds and UK came top of the table. Lovely to see women's athletics doing as well as the men's - it was not always so. Very proud of them all.
Two thoughts that kept popping up - one is that it would be very sad to lose the Scottish athletes if they decide for independence. And the athletes would probably miss the backup they get at the moment.
The other is - how things change. I remember the days when Russian and East German athletes were dominant in Europe. Due partly to their state machinery but also the amount of drugs that were used. Some of the women are living with the unpleasant after-effects. Now the whole of Germany was way behind EK, France etc

I agree and the future looks bright as there are so many youngsters with so much talent coming up from the juniors.
