The inaugural Gransnet Social distancing sports day was held yesterday.
There were 6 competitors across the range of events. Elegran, Katek, Marelli, Cascats, Ina and Jane10.
Elizabeth1 and Oldgoat had a note to get them off games.
Results
Solo three legged race was won by a short margin by Jane10 but she was disqualified for using a tricycle.

Egg and Spoon Race
This race ran out of time due to all competitors discussing better uses for eggs leading to a heated argument on the best way to scramble them.

Obstacle Race
This followed the traditional form of each competitor donning a range of items before crawling under a net, climbing a wall and running through a water trough. In the first section where each competitor had to find and put on their own glasses, teeth and hearing aids, Katek was at an initial advantage as she doesn’t have glasses however, she was unable to see over the wall and she was two inches shorter than the water in the trough, so came in a rather soggy third place behind Jane10 and Cascats.

The Three yard dash
This was won by Ina in a personal best time for this race.

Hurdles
The 6 inch hurdles race was cancelled as the course marshals deemed it too dangerous to proceed.
However, the 3 inch hurdles race was won by a short head- Marelli’s as she tripped over the last hurdle and passed the tape head first.

The 800 metres
No result as yet for this race as it is still in progress. As night fell Elegran was in the lead but with Katek and Cascats in hot, well hottish, pursuit. It is hoped that they reach the finishing post by this afternoon

I should have said that it was the official East of Scotland GN sports day as discussed at yesterday's weekly Zoom meeting!

Brilliant Jane, absolutely brilliantgrin. I've been crying with laughter.

Katek Thu 30-Jul-20 15:04:47

Pssst.......!! (Never touched a drop guv’nor, honest) Don’t tell anyone but I stopped off for tea and sandwiches at a very pleasant little hotel next to the sports ground. Suitably revived - and with the aid of the local taxi - I am now at the 60mtr point. Cascats keeps tripping over her wool and Elegran has gone off piste slightly looking for her glasses. I could win this you know !

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 15:20:57

Keep going Katek I've put my pension on at 100/1 on you winning.

Katek Thu 30-Jul-20 15:27:23

50:50 split then? 😓🏃🏻‍♀️

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 15:36:51

Look I've hidden Elegran's glasses and distracted Cascat with a big ball of mohair wool. Just you get on with the race and we'll discuss splitting the winnings when you finally finish. It's not often an 800 metres race goes on overnight.

Me duck here from the East Midlands chuck the Haggis team, not sure who else has turned up, but I expect they'll make themselves known. My throw was disqualified because I checked a Wellie by mistake(We call it Welly Wanging here)
Anybody seen my Haggis?

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 16:21:36

gardener44 that must have been a very big throw to try to get it all the way up to the East of Scotland GN sports day. Your welly must have landed in Yorkshire somewhere.

Katek Thu 30-Jul-20 17:40:59

I’m doing my best out here! It’s not easy running in slippers you know.......

Elegran Thu 30-Jul-20 18:01:00

I have returned to the race without glasses - can't think where I put them. I have just passed Broxburn. Should I turn left or right at the next crossroads? I m not familiar with these West Lothian roads. They say they eat their young in Bathgate. Here be dragons.

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 18:04:11

Aim for Linlithgow Elegran it's more refined. Sorry about the glasses. If you run into something damp it's Linlithgow Loch so start swimming. Good practice for the Iron Gran challenge next year.

Elegran Thu 30-Jul-20 18:12:17

Just passed a road sign that might have said Linlithgow, but I couldn't read it with my specs

Elegran Thu 30-Jul-20 18:13:47

Without. Can't type witout them either.

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 18:19:41

Oh well. 'Keep right on to the end of the road'!

Elegran Thu 30-Jul-20 18:29:18

Running through open country now. There's an old church on a hill to my left, graveyard too, and a tall mast near it. I'm sure I saw another mast away to the right as well.

The sun is setting ahead and dazzling me. I must be heading West. Oh, no! It is not the sun, it's massive headlights. This isn't the back road we started out on. Where are Katek and Casdcats?

I've a bad feeling about this. Anyone got Marydoll's phone number? I may need a bed for the night.

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 18:44:44

Have a cup of tea at Harthill. See if you can borrow some specs then turn 180° and start running back.
It's a long 800 metres. I blame brexit. Pesky continental measurements.

Elegran Thu 30-Jul-20 19:08:32

Will do. See you next Wednesday. If I don't make it, give my knitting to *Cascats" to finish. It just needs all one side and two sleeves done, the pieces sewn up and stitches picked up round the neck and down the edges for the front bands, it will probably take her about fifteen minutes.

Katek Thu 30-Jul-20 19:31:52

Oh no! Just made the 100mtr mark and I’ve had a blowout in my slipper. Fortunately I have AA membership, so just waiting for them to arrive with a puncture repair outfit. Wonder if they would do a ‘get you home’ towing service for elegran ....... wherever she’s got to.

Marydoll Thu 30-Jul-20 20:40:45

Elegran, coooeee, where are you? I'm waiting at the M77 cut off for you. Was that you in the red shorts and vest top flying by, being chased by a police car for running on the motorway? wink

lemongrove Thu 30-Jul-20 20:44:41

Did Nicola Sturgeon award the trophies?😂😂

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 21:32:50

She wanted another photo opportunity of course but was escorted off the grounds.

Elegran Thu 30-Jul-20 21:53:00

I am back in Edinburgh, Katek. Those headlights were on an articulated transport thingy heading east. The driver slammed on his brakes to miss me and almost jackknifed off the road, but when he ran out of rude words he agreed to give me a lift back. I won't need that bed after all, Marydoll I have one for tonight. Not as comfortable as my own, but I'm not complaining. Who won the 800 metres by the way?

Jane10 Thu 30-Jul-20 22:08:06

Cascats quietly walked over the finish line about 6 hours ago. It was a record beating 27 hour time for the 800 metres.
Obviously I backed the wrong runner. Pension gone. sad
I'll want to discuss this Katek. See you on Wednesday.
