How is this match going to be safe for the thousands that will attend...already know many people saying that they are travelling to London on Tuesday...we are going round in circles with the self isolation etc....I just despair when am abiding by the rules..

Oh not the flu analogy again. Get me out of here…..

Saetana Thu 01-Jul-21 21:48:38

Oh FFS - everyone attending Wembley has either got to prove double vaccination at least two weeks ago, or a negative test. We need to get back to normal stat - covid is not going anywhere and we have to learn to live with it, just as we live with flu on an annual basis!

Sit down Rufus - I totally agree with you!
Sometimes threads run their course- even off-course- and it is time to put them out of their misery.

Am I the only one who thinks this thread has been completely de-railed!?
For crying out loud: We've got England v Ukraine coming up soon from Rome!
All we need to do is alter the title of this thread accordingly and re-post it.
We'll continue singing "We still call Australia home" grin

Many people, mainly older people, die of flu every winter. Not last winter though, because people were not going out, or self isolating, or wearing masks etc flu wasn’t a big killer, but it usually is a killer every winter. That’s why we have the flu jab every winter. Instead last winter we had Covid, and now, thanks to the wonderful and dedicated scientists, we have Covid jabs too.

Why don't we all just grow up and deal with the fact that we are living with Covid in any variation for the foreseeable future just like we live with flu in its variant strains, people get ill, some recover, some die, pardon the pun 'that's life'. Time to ditch the numbers, let's face it prior to 2020 none of us were the slightest bit interested in how many people were in hospital, or ICU, or had died in the UK over a 30 day cycle. So why so interested now!

I also don't go out that often I do see my family regularly always have apart from first few months We are all vaccinated now
I take part in the ONS study so test quite regularly for that and now doing blood tests for antibodies
The tests are a bit fiddly but OK once you get the hang of it

OK if you think so you are obviously more delicate than me I did not call you rude when you criticised me for testing for my holiday when you don't test at all
Will leave it at that

I explained about the reason why I don’t test but why I need to test now on another thread.

Bijou Wed 30-Jun-21 19:25:05

When I was young I was very seriously ill with the then epidemic of Asian flu.

rosie1959 Wed 30-Jun-21 19:13:36

MayBee70 Wed 30-Jun-21 19:10:35

rosie1959 Wed 30-Jun-21 19:00:17

Maybee I do think in the nicest way you are being a bit OTT why on earth do you bleach shopping that can't be healthy

MayBee70 but you have not been regularly testing either so you could have unwittingly passed it on
I actually don’t usually go out that often perhaps once a week to the vegetable market so I don’t think I have infected to many
Of course I am worried about taking the virus to Jersey as they have low cases but I also don’t want to spend 10 days of a 2k holiday in a hotel room
Life has to go on this living in perpetual fear
I am sorry MayBee70 if this offends you but I am sure I am not in the minority
The vaccine is doing it job

I haven’t been shopping for over 18 months. We have had no social visitors, even family. We met my son in a garden and stayed outside the whole time. Haven’t seen my daughter for 18 months other than when she dropped off some food for me and knocked on my window. The only people to have been in the house was a BT engineer (masked) when the internet (our lifeline) went down. And a chimney sweep (masked) because we were worried about having a chimney fire. I’ve been to the dentist twice and had my vaccinations twice. Took the dog to the vets but waited outside (masked). No pubs, no cafes, no cinema. We walk the dog and keep our distance from people. We have had our food delivered. We still bleach it.

Did the English manager orchestrate the singing? Well done Mr Southgate, clearly a man of many talents.

Anniebach Wed 30-Jun-21 18:26:00

The English have every right to sing the National Anthem

lemongrove Wed 30-Jun-21 18:22:24

No we don’t Molly so we sing the National Anthem, but maybe the English manager should check it’s alright with random people on GN first.?

Mollygo Wed 30-Jun-21 18:03:01

Do we have an English Anthem? I haven’t seen it discussed on here. I remember on FB, no one could agree what it should be, which is probably why England sings the UK National Anthem. I’d happily sing Land of Hope and Glory.
I wouldn’t mind Land of Hope and Glory

So you’re only worried about having the virus if it stops you going on holiday, not if you might pass it on to an immune suppressed person that could die of it. I’m sorry but that mindset is totally alien to me.

rosie1959 Wed 30-Jun-21 17:44:56

At least you know if you have got flu Having to test for a virus that is so bad you don’t even know you have got it
This could be detrimental to the number of positive cases many will not test if they feel absolutely fine I have done a couple because I have been to a wedding at the weekend and I am going away and don’t want to get caught out by Jerseys incoming testing regulations. I really would not bother otherwise

MayBee70 Wed 30-Jun-21 17:30:40

Why do you say the flu is as deadly as covid?

Bijou Wed 30-Jun-21 17:11:08

I believe there were 27 deaths yesterday. Out of a population of over 67 million. We are not told how many people died of cancer because of delayed treatment.
I know a lot of people get Covid but influenza is just as deadly.

Elvis58 Wed 30-Jun-21 16:39:51

Maggue Tulliver, could not agree more.Life must go on we need to man up and live with it!
