Ashamed of British fan last night

I never watch football as I hate it but I did watch last night because I am English and proud of my country. It was very exciting and at the end was thrilled with the result and the way the players behaved.

However, having seen that an English fan shone a laser in the Danish's goalkeeper's eye when Kane went to take the penalty kick I was ashamed.

I have never posted that they cannot have an opinion anywhere Petera please do not twist my posts to suit your own agenda.

Petera that is probably because there are since Euro 2020 started (yes I know it’s 2021, but that is the correct title) a lot of posters denigrating football and it’s fans because of the behaviour of a few idiots without it appears much knowledge of the game.

Well then , going back to my football analogy of playing the ball, it should be easy for you to tell them why they are wrong, instead of just telling them they can't have an opinion.

Petera if you had read the whole thread you would have seen that I have posted that the person responsible for shining the laser in KP’s face/eyes should be prosecuted.
It should be easy to find out who done it Wembley has numerous CTV cameras and as this was a test event it is known who sat in each seat therefore they are easily traced.

I did read it. And you also posted your comment about 'armchair experts' twice.

I first went to West Ham when I was under 5yrs old, grew up round football players/fans and I get really cross when those who have no interest/never been to a game become ^armchair experts^

You seem to be suggesting that unless you were born near a football stadium you have no right to an opinion over, for example, the fairness of shining laser pens into goalkeepers' eyes.

I know enough about football, and it's not very much, to understand that this is playing the man not the ball.

Gwyneth Fri 09-Jul-21 13:53:40

Lin52 I’m all for fair play in sport and I certainly don’t agree that the Danish were sore losers. They handled the end result with respect and dignity despite (I’m sure ) feeling that the penalty was a poor decision as well as what happened with Schmeichel.

I am Danish and not only disappointed as Denmark played so well albeit a bit rough at times.I am however disgusted at this behaviour during a semi final. Definitely no victory for the English in my view

Alioop Fri 09-Jul-21 13:36:37

Disgusting and I hope they are caught and banned. What childish idiot feels the need to do something like that. Prat!

Cuckooz Fri 09-Jul-21 13:20:25

I’ve never been a fan of football and the first match I watched was England playing Ukraine on Saturday. I don’t think I missed anything by not watching football in the past - it’s just not for me.
The laser incident was downright disgusting and I hope they find the idiot that did it. That (low life) person needs to be banned from attending football matches for life. He’s a disgrace to British fans!
As for the England vs Italy match - I doubt I’ll watch it.

lavenderzen Fri 09-Jul-21 13:09:58

I, like shortlegs, have been a football supporter for years and am certainly not a thug. There are always going to be people who bring disgrace into a situation but you cannot insinuate everyone is the same, that just isn't true.

I don't think shortlegs is being aggressive at all, you are over reacting discodancer.

Shortlegs Fri 09-Jul-21 13:09:28

Discodancer1975: Straight back at ya! My opinion, my experience.

Foxyferret Fri 09-Jul-21 13:06:21

Every match in every country I have watched, the two opposing teams have always booed each other. This is nothing new and not exclusive to England fans. As for the laser, words fail me.

Alegrias1 Fri 09-Jul-21 12:57:00

And the links that disprove your erroneous assumptions?

DiscoDancer1975 Fri 09-Jul-21 12:53:39

Shortlegs

There are some very biased and, frankly, strange attitudes. I guess everybody is entitled to their opinion. Here are a couple of mine: Mainly followed by thugs? I have attending live matches for over 50 years, there are always some idiots, but I'd say the vast majority of football followers are in no way thuggish. Also, discodancer1975 saying they hate football because of what may of happened in 1975 is up there with hating the Germans or Japanese because of what happened in WW2. Pathetic.

It’s my opinion, my experience. I’m entitled to both. You don’t have to agree. You sound quite aggressive. This does nothing to support your case.

Even Alan Shearer, who I have a lot of respect for, said that had the penalty been given against England he would have been very angry. The player took a dive in my opinion and the penalty should never have been awarded. The lazer incident was disgraceful and the penalty should have been retaken. Although England played well and probably deserved to win these incidents during ‘extra time ‘ left a sour taste especially after the hysterical celebrations afterwards.

Always some on here happy to denigrate England due to a minority of fans disgusting behaviour. There is cctv at Wembley, so hopefully they will be caught and punished. The VCR, was viewed and Sterling’s fall was deemed a foul. Seems the Danish would have liked the Ref version as it would have let their player off. Never mind about their own goal. Sore losers. On the other hand we are allowing 1000 Italians in to watch the game, unlike them who banned our fans, even those living in Italy, who had tickets. Who is for fair play eh.

Alegrias1 Fri 09-Jul-21 12:48:03

Blooming footballers.

Blooming fans.

Ban the lot of them. hmm

If I wrote some of the things on here somebody would be on me quick as you like accusing me of Scottish bias.

I once got stuck in a building in Chelsea while a bunch of football supporters chased each other up and down the high street. Chelsea and Fulham, I think. I didn't think they were just like the football supporters I know personally, and I didn't blame the very existence of football for their criminal behaviour.

Only in Britain? Not quite, follow the links.

Only football? Wrong again.

I think that the person using the laser when found should be housed at her Majesty's pleasure to teach him or her a lesson. As for the booing, that is absolutely disgraceful.

I watch the Euros every 4 years and mostly I have enjoyed watching England play although my heart has stopped at times. I live within 3-4 miles of the stadium but I stay indoors.

I certainly wasn’t an ‘armchair expert.’ I was a terrified 14 year old girl working in a supermarket in the town centre, when these yobs , hundreds of them, ran through throwing missiles at people, shops, anything really. The police struggled to contain them.
You obviously had a different experience, and I’m glad for that, but it wasn’t the same for everyone. We always understood this hooliganism didn’t occur anywhere else in the world, except Britain.
Now, I’ve no real clue what it’s like, except my football fanatic son in law says it’s still around. Hard to imagine it happening at Wimbledon, or with the cricket!

bibibetti Fri 09-Jul-21 11:56:41

Not only that but they also spat at danish fans children including

beth20 Fri 09-Jul-21 11:53:01

I'm afraid the laser incident has taken away any pleasure in this win. One person, yes, but maybe the final should now be played without an audience. Fining the FA does not affect the thoughtless (malicious) person who did this, nor those who choose to boo during national anthems or smuggle fireworks in.

I'm with those who think that the game should have been stopped and England disqualified meaning a Danish win. Harsh? Very, but the alternative is being seen to be content to let supporters get away with outrageous thuggery.

Since that didn't happen I hope that Uefa impose sanctions as well as fans.

Why should the game be stopped and given in Denmarks favour? It was a criminal act by one idiot.
The rest of the fans to me, were happy, jubilant, and in the main well behaved.
