I was pleased to hear on the radio news at 7 today to hear that Medvedev was the winner of the men’s final. Not a fan of Djokovic at all.

I am glad too, and pleased for Medvedev. It’s good to see future champions emerging as the Men’s Tennis in particular has been dominated by the elite few for such a long time.

Straight sets too! Unsurprisingly not much coverage in our media, if Medvedev had lived in Birmingham we would have been awash with news clips etc.

I was shocked - but perhaps not surprised - when Novak smashed his racquet when what he was really doing was beating himself up. He - and the press - had put such a weight of expectation on his shoulders that he couldn't cope. What's so great about winning all majors in the same calendar year? He has won them all within 12 months - just not in one year!
